So I started working out more heavily. Lots of walking and using a glider. I am getting charley horses almost every night. I am wondering if anyone has had the same experience and if so, how long they last.

Sweet potatoes are higher in postassium than bananas, but either will work. one a day and you should see an improvement by the end of the week.

    This.
  • I had the same issue. I was drinking a ton of water everyday, so I knew it didn't have anything to do with being dehydrated. But I did add a banana to my diet and the leg cramps are less frequent.

Are you stretching really well after you workout? Are you drinking plenty of water? Do you eat bananas?

When I first started walking longer distances last year (training to walk a 10k) I had major pain in my legs - so much that it would disturb my sleep. This is a common side effect from exertion called DOMS or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. You need to make sure you have a nice cool-down and stretching period after your workout. I try to eat bananas all the time to avoid muscle soreness from inadequate levels of potassium. And, as long as you're not oppossed to taking meds, aspirin, advil, aleve or tylenol might help with the pain.

Water is the answer! I get these all the time because I forget to drink water.

I drink a lot of water, so I know that is not it. I drink around 3 liters a day. I however do not eat bananas right now because I am currently doing phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. I like to do it as a cleanse. Anyone know if stores sell potassium?
