too much protein

When I complete my diary entries for the day, I am in red over protein intake almost daily.
I don't drink protein shakes, but I found that I do eat a lot of protein. Will that stop me from getting slimmer?
Any comments would help.

Easy: NO!
Too much protein, is better than too much carbs or fat. (Always keeping your daily cal intake where it must be)0 -
I can only answer for myself....As I am a carbo addict, my meal plan is usually higher in protein as I must choose only healthy carbs. My 1200 calorie intake does not leave a lot of room for choices.
One piece of bad carb...and I'm off to the races at eating unhealthy....
Healthy proteins are the key also. Fish, chicken, beans.
Hope this helps.0 -
Your daily goal seems to be set at 45g, which isn't that high - anything up to 100g protein a day is fine, and is especially good if you are doing strength training as it helps repair muscle.
You're only a teensy bit over - bear in mind everything you record is an estimate: apply a margin of error of +/- 10% and you'll see that 4g over a target of 45g isn't a big deal.
And some of the things you've recorded don't show all the macro nutrients, so bear that in mind as well when doing any analysis of your diary.0 -
Extra Protein by itself won't hurt much since your body can't store it like it does Carbs. But most of the time protein comes with some fat because your body needs it to process the protein. The key to lose is focus at least initially on Calories in vs calories out, good hydration, and keep your diet balanced. It may help to reduce things that are processed foods with simple carbs in it like white bread, potatoes, etc, and replace them with whole grain, brown rice, oats, etc. Good Luck!0

Simplification:
1) All "exceeding" nutrients (carbs prot and fat) get stored as FAT. With 1200kcal you aint storing anything, you are using it all!.
2) Your body uses as fuel mainly carbs and fat (proteins are used for many other valuable and cool stuff, but when you are losing weight, the body also burns them, because it needs all energy it can get)
3) You need proteins for all those other cool functions prots have (not just as fuel) and there are some proteins your body can't produce (essential amino acid) for its own usage..... thats why you HAVE TO eat them. (and thats why vegeterians must be really careful with what they eat... or they risk serious health problems)
4) You need carbs, because glucose is your brains main fuel (yep, brain likes eating glucose only, and muscle is quite picky also). Still, your body is smart, and can transform fat storages into glucose to feed the big boss: your brain. (thats why you need carbs in your diet)
5) fat have twice the cal for each gram (carbs and prot are 4 cal/g whereas fat is 9cal/g)... so you dont want to eat that! Plus you have fat storage you wanna burn, right?
oh, and some types of meat, like chicken or turkey or fish are very low on fat... its not a matter of you needing it.. its a matter of animals physiology0 -
I'm so glad you asked that question, as it's been my concern as well!0

Those estimates I put in the diary really stress me out as I don't have them recorded in the food selection, so I Google them to see if anyone has counted the calories. There are many food that are missing from the food selection or are giving me the wrong portion size so sometimes I put too much or too little of something.
Like some homemade soups. I'm really surprised that they don't have them there. Soups are fab for losing weight.0 -

More protein the better!, best thing to have when trying to lose weight as it stops you losing muscle tone when losing weight and also builds muscle definition and also repairs muscles after exercise.
I try and keep my daily protein to a minimum of 100g, higher the better as long as you keep the fat low and stay within your calorie limit0 -

If i remember correctly when you are losing weight you lose 75% fat and 25% lean tissue.. you are gonna lose muscle, everybody does! eating proteins alone doesn't avoid that.... but EXERCISING helps compensating the muscular loss! :flowerforyou:0
