For the last few weeks the scales haven't moved. That's okay I'm not worried. But my waist is shrinking. I have put two new holes in my belt. I know from all my friends on MFP that:- 1. It is not possible to 'spot reduce' and 2. It is almost impossible to gain muscle while at a calorie deficit. So what's happening? Come on Oh wise ones, enlighten me. No pun intended.

  • If you're shrinking and the scale isn't moving, then you ARE putting on muscle.
Maybe not a lot, but definitely some.
Muscle is more dense than fat, so a small bit will weigh as much as a whole lot of fat.
  • Same thing is happening to me right now... Bump

you can gain some lean muscle while on a calorie deficit...especially if you're eating protein. there are also water retention issues while working out that affect inches and scale weight.

You're using MFP to take off inches, not pounds. F**k the scale.

Losing fat + maintaining weight != gaining lean muscle mass (necessarily). You might be, it's just a little unlikely, depending on various factors. I'm guessing water retention, esp if you're doing any strength training.
