Does anyone here use protein shakes in their diet? I've heard stories about them having loads of sugar, and actually making people gain weight? If you use them and are successful, then please reccommend a good brand? (i'm in the UK)

I used the EAS carb control ones. They're 110 calories and only have 2g of sugar in them. I can't find them where I live now but I've got other alternatives now.
As far as making you gain weight. If you eat tons of protein, tons of calories, and don't work out then yeah, you'll gain weight. The same way you'll gain wait if all you eat is cake and cheeseburgers.0 -
Yes I do, everyday in fact and the loads of sugar part is news to me. It's one of the cleanest forms of protein you can possibly get. I'd recommend 100% gold standard whey. Body building.com usually has them at the lowest price and a ton of flavors.0

I drink Muscle Milk Light, which does not have much sugar at all. I have tried to drink whey but it caused me to have a stomach ache.0

I make mine. I use this basic "recipe" and go from there-making up my own versions. http://www.dashingdish.com/2010/03/i-cant-believe-its-not-a-milkshake/
the protein shake I use a scoop of in mine is called Naturade total soy. It's a reduced sugar type. You could also buy pure soy protein isolate or pure whey protein (with no added sugars, flavors, etc). The beauty of these shakes is that you can 1) mask the flavor of your protein shake and 2) get a cravings fix.
Sometimes I use peanut flour as the protein mix and then add some cocoa; my favorite is just adding blueberries and a little cinnamon and then crushing a graham cracker and mixing in at the end. There are limitless ideas you could use...
I usually use agave nectar or organic sugar for sweetening.0 -
Protein shakes should be used in your daily diets even if ur trying to lose weight, yes some are used to put on weight too. you prob want to get a %100 whey protein which is for lean muscle, you use protein shakes to help meet your protein intake and prevent you from losing muscle instead of fat. There are many types of proteins out there, but i have used them in both losing weight and putting on muscle.0
