I am interested in trying crossfit and the closest box is an hour away. I am intimidated by the level of fitness and am looking for support and motivation in becoming a part of the community. Anybody new to crossfit interested in sharing their experience?

I do my own modified crossfit workouts... they work for me and I can do it at my home gym.... I look up the WOD through a beta site WOD generator... seems to work for me, I love it!

there is a big article on Cross Fit in the new Men's Health. I just skimmed it but looks good.

I've been wanting to try CF for awhile, but I'm in penny saving mode right now, so not gonna happen. But I've had some friends go and the SWEAR by it.

the one thing I did hear about it, is depending on the box/instructors etc, if they aren't experienced, they can push people too hard with some serious injuries happening.

but probably like anything, do your homework and won't know until you try.

    good luck!

One of my friends does it, and I'd love to try but its way too much money for me.

go for it!! I went to my local CF (crossfitBWI) in the worst shape of my life. I love that there are no mirrors, no one is judging. Everyone at my place is super encouraging. It's so nice to have someone cheering your through the toughest part of your workout. Dont be intimidated, just get in there and do it. Make some friends there and you won't be sorry! Good luck!!

I'm in the same boat on the cost. Most intimidating is figuring out how to scale down to my abilities and the equipment available in my home gym.

Avid crossfitter here. The most excellent part of Crossfit is all WOD's are scalable. If you aren't able to do the workout as prescribed (Rx), then scale it to a weight or a compound movement you can manage.

Don't underestimate what you can push around! Invest in some plates and lift. Get a pull up bar and keep practicing those darned pull ups. If you can't pull up do an inverted row. Find youtube video's of the WODs you want to try and see what scaling options there are.

PS - there is a group of us where we share our WOD's - if you want to join us or check us out we're here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/337245-community-for-crossfitters-by-crossfitters-anyone-interes
