Habitual snacking

I can't seem to break the habit of snacking after dinner. As I clean the dishes I pick a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I am going to try making a cup of tea immediately after I eat instead of turning to food. Does anyone else have tips to stopping the evening munchies?

  • brush teeth and chew minty sugar free gum!! or chug a bottle of water. sometimes i just go to bed to prevent snacking.

I was just thinking the same thing! Rather than eating those pita chips, I'm going to bed! :)
  • Lots of water! The more water the fuller you feel. If you must snack try putting some grapes, apples, or carrots on the top shelf right in front in your fridge. Hide all the "other stuff" in a cabinet or pantry. I'm guessing you are eating what you see and not actually going and looking for it. "Out of sight, out of mind" seems to help me most of the time.

I find that if I leave the dining table alone for about 15 minutes, go sit on the couch and drink a glass of water (tea would be nice too! I might try that tomorrow), I'm not as likely to feel the need to nibble as I put the leftovers away and load the dishwasher. Also, on days when I've done a lot of cooking I just make my boyfriend do all the clean up so there's no temptation :)

I like this suggestion the best ;)

Put leftovers away as soon as you've served out dinner, then they aren't there to tempt you.
And try to convince someone else to do the dishes!

If you know you will be snacking, just allow for those extra calories.

Remember, you don't have to stop doing these little things, just account for them now :)
