Last time I ever want to go out to a 'dinner'. I ate more for one meal than I do in an entire day! It was work and I knew I would have to go with the flow and eat what I was served and I even planned for it by going to the gym for a 825 calorie workout earlier today to try make up for it but now that I have come home and put my meal in I am still over by 400 calories. I know it is only one day and you probably think I am over reacting but what worries me is that I trying so hard to be good with the food and go to the gym why would I not just have left more food on my plate instead of worrying about what the other people at my table thought!! Not good at all, why can I not learn to leave food on my plate!!!

Anyone else have a similar issue and what do you do??

This is all a learning experience. Everyone has had to learn the hard way, that way it really sticks with us for the next time! No worries, you will be okay!

Don't beat yourself up over it. We all do it once in a while. Just don't make it very often.........Get up tomorrow and start all over with a clean slate.

We live a healthy lifestyle 90% of the time, and can accept the 10% of the time when we enjoy life's other pleasures. You're normal and healthy -- and your healthy lifestyle is not a moral test.

So don't beat yourself up for the occasional over-target day. I'm sure that over the course of the week...of the month...you're doing just great, and that's what matters.

I think we all have this problem once in awhile - if not at work then with family or friends etc. Don't be discouraged. It IS only one day - but make a plan for next time. In order to lose weight and then keep it off we have to change how we do things permanently. It is not realistic to never go out for dinner - and it isn't fun either. Life is fun for the thin of this world and they enjoy food too.Getting thinner and healthier does not mean never having fun again and never enjoying great food again! Planning ahead is the best way to go whenever you can. If you know where you are going, find out what they have on the menu and decide what you will have before you get there. Then, eat less! I just spent a week away on a business trip and I ate in restaurants. Here is an example of what I mean. i ordered a steak (because it came without any fancy fat filled sauce and I knew how to count it) When it came to me, I cut the steak in half and removed the half from my plate and put it on my (unused) bread plate. I ate all of the vegetables, half of the mashed potatoes and half of the steak. I logged it all and stayed within my calories for the day. OH YEAH - I enjoyed my meal and I had a great evening with my colleagues. It can be done. Whatever you do, don't let today defeat you. I always think mostly good choices over the long haul is what really matters in this losing game - not what happens at one meal. Tomorrow is a new day!

It's tough to go out. Restaurants serve LARGE portions of food. Take today as a learning day. We learn best from our mistakes. You probably won't see a reflection in the scale tomorrow, but if you do it is temporary, probably a sodium overload and you will be fine. It's okay. What did you learn?

I had a similar experience today... I learned today, that sometimes I am going to end up in a restaurant and there is going to be choices, and sometimes I don't want to eat the "best choice". I am learning to eat simply until I am no longer hungry, not until I am full. Slow down, eat really slowly when you are in a restaurant. Tune in to your hunger. Either order for your hunger or don't be shy to leave food on your plate or split a dinner, order a la carte. Know that you won't hurt the restaurants feelings if you don't finish all your food.

Thanks guys! I feel hungover this morning - even though I drank water all night I'm sure it is all that fat and sodium! Just got a liitle freaked last night because I don't want another trip on the weight roller coaster, but you are right it is one night and I can't learn if I don't make mistakes!! I just seem to make this one too often, need to by that wire that runs from the full stomach to the empty brain! lol
