Women using a HRM w/ chest strap

I'm trying to set up my HRM and it has a chest strap. I'm having a hard time using it. I feel it's only made for a man. I can't get it in the right spot to get it to transmit to my watch. Any women out there with any ideas, especially those with fairly large chests?

I put mine directly below my breasts and my sports bra band rests right on top of it and I've never had troubles with it transmitting in that position.

I have the same problem and I can't put my bra strap over it or it stops being supportive enough

  • I have mine right below my sports bra. I had to knot the strap to get it to stay snug enough.

Mine's lashed up really tight under my bra. To start with I didn't like the tightness at all, but yesterday I realised I'd kept it on when I cooked dinner, I've got so used to it. My OH recommended just dampening the back of it if it doesn't pick up a signal straight away, but mine's been ok for me.

me too. also, make sure the band is dampened so it can pick up the signal.

One of the women I work with has one, and she said she wears it under her chest and to the side because her chest is concave a bit and it doesn't lay flat. Try putting it under one breast?

I can only use soft strap HRMs like the garmin one. It's totally adjustable and just a band of neoprene, so it fits well. I have to tuck the receiver bit under my bra strap, and it does get in the way a bit, but it works.
  • Thanks everyone for the help. I did try to put it under my chest but it didn't work the first time. I'll try again and make sure it has the best connection. Hopefully it will work.
  • I'm glad you asked about this. My treadmill came with a chest strap HRM, but I wasn't quite sure about placement, and couldn't get it to work when I tried it before. The diagram in the book showing it on a lean, muscle-y man didn't really help me any, as I'm anything but lean & muscle-y, especially in that area.

I wear my HRM around where my bra strap goes at the front, but I pull the back part down so that it's closer to my waist. I have a 'roll' there that if the HRM strap sits in, my HRM strap either folds in half or digs into me at the clip on the side. I put the front part under the front of my bra.
  • I'll definitely try to dampen it. My instructions came with a pic of man too. I wish they gave instructions for women. A bit one sided to me.
