I love the idea of losing my extra weight and getting fit and healthy. I used to walk marathons and never had trouble with my weight. The last year, though, the pounds have crept on and my exercise has slacked off.
I plan, I make a schedule, I clip healthy recipes. I talk a good game. Every evening, I have the best plans to get a move on the next day. But then the next day comes. Sigh.
Sometimes I can go a couple days, being on track...logging my calories, getting my exercise and then all my motivation...just stops. Can't figure it out, can't explain it. Can't find a reason to keep it up. I know all the risks of being overweight. I know, I know. But nothing seems to help me stick with what I need to do to get healthy. New clothes? That would be nice. I don't really like the clothes I wear now. Being more attractive to my husband...I WISH that would kick me into gear.
I need a major wake up call.

sorry you are having issues. Maybe it isn't as important to you as you think. Make it a priority and just do it!0

you need to make a goal and stick with it.. cut out a pic of someone where u wanna be. write down ur goals and read them over n over again u will get there0

i used to be like that. then one day i snapped and just got FED UP with being uncomfortable in my own skin. really, you aren't going to do it until you really want to and no one can make you do it, or give you a good reason to. you have to find that on your own. maybe what you need is to promise yourself AND someone else you care about (someone you would never break a promise to) that you are going to do it. once you start seeing changes and improvements......that's enough to keep going with it because you start feeling really good about what you have accomplished and you want more and more.

Do it today. It is up to you and only you. This is the only thing that has helped me recently. For months, I kept saying to myself, I don't feel like it, I'll start tomorrow. Tomorrow never came until one day I was reflecting on something my best friend told me...That it was up to me, that only I could make myself truly happy and only I can achieve the goal when I really want to and doing it for no one else would work, that is why I failed so many times at this whole health / workout thing.0

My Major wake up call was going to Walmart one day to buy new tanks for the summer and having to buy a 3x to fit the way I like them to fit (baggy) And the fact that I hate having sex being so FAT! LOL (prob TMI) You can do this one day at a time hun0

I understand completely!! I feel the same way. I know that I have more self-confidence with translates to me being happier when my clothes fit better, but I have trouble staying motivated. I keep telling myself that I can & will do it, but I then I fall off the wagon. The good thing is that I just get back up there each time and try again. At least don't quit trying!0

Don't keep putting it off... The pounds will keep coming and then it's that much harder! Find something to motivate you! Do you have kids they do it for me!0

I find that when I make small, realistic goals, I am better able to achieve them and keep going. It's a lot easier (for me) to give up when I make lofty goals that require a HUGE shift in my behavior. Little changes will add up with time! You can do this!0

I go through the same thing every time I make a decision to lose weight! I stay on track for about 4 days and then i start to slack off! But somehow this time around I've really made a mental decision that I have to STOP myself from quitting. I need to lose weight and I keep my goals in sight. I have found very helpful to surround myself with things that will remind me to stay on target and continue with this life change.. for instance, I have healthy snacks on hand, I put up pictures of myself at my heaviest to deter me from my goals! Even though I hate to look at those pics... it has really helped me stay focused! Plus........... I now have MFP to help me through this! I used to be like that, stopping and starting dieting. I think something just clicked in my head that I didn't want to be like this anymore and everything just seemed so much easier. One of the things I have done to keep me motivated is buy a gorgeous dress that is too small and I've hung it up in my bedroom to see all the time, everytime I'm demotivated I look at that dress and think 'I WILL fit into it'. Maybe worth a try?0

I know this sounds really silly but I got a subscription to womens health and just looking at all those skinny happy people make me wanna keep with my goal. Plus there is the added bonus of exercise, eating, and overall health tips! I have went through phases like that. I start on a diet strong and I feel good about it, and then one day I just don't care. You have to find something that inspires you to want to be better to yourself and for yourself. Good luck! This is only my 2nd day but I am feeling really good about I went to bed yesterday with a big smile so let's try this every morning when you wake up look in the mirror smile and tell yourself I can do this and anything else I set my mind to do....You must do this for YOU!!!! once you're happy about who you're everyone else will see it and be drawn to this new beautiful happy person we all need a push sometimes so this site is a wonderful idea to get motivation from other people remember to smile at all times and do not allow any negative comments to ever come out of your mouth and if you ever hear one cripping up in your head kick it off ASAP.

Bless your heart you sound like me. I am full of good intentions and I do great for a while then ....weeeeee slide back to old stupid habits. I come to the conclusion that the one thing in common is....hmmmm ME...lol I believe I give up because it is easier to give up than to keep working at it.. Well its the last time you will here me say how lazy kids are now a days because I'm no better...And one more important thing... You MUST log on everyday or you will slowly lose your motivation and go back to easy. I should know it happened to me and this is the first time in a long time I have been back. So hopefully this time it will sink in to me too... Good luck..0

You are not alone. You are surrounded by many snackers. We have our good days and bad. The secret is to have more good days than bad and to minimize the damage on the bad days.
Last year, I lost a total of 30 lbs, as of Sep 10. In the past 13 months, I gained back 15 of those lbs by giving in to my snacking impulses!!
I am back on the diet, controlling my calories, drinking at least 8 cups of water per day, and aiming for about 1/2 lb loss per week.
The first week (the honeymoon week of dieting?) I have lost 2 lbs. I have 13 to go and you and I can think of each other while we are fighting those snacking urges.
Celebrate your good days. Try to get out and stroll on your bad days. Spend time with a friend (via phone or in person).
I am worst when I am alone in the house. Today, my sweet hubby bowls all day (3 hour league in a.m. and 3 hour league in p.m.). It is just me and the dog and he's not big enough to rip any snacks out of my hands!!

I know what you mean... for me, personally, I go through phases. One week I'm extra motivated and I exercise every day and eat tons of fruits and veggies and am just... well, good! The week after, I feel lethargic and completely lazy and un-motivated and gain it all back. Over the years, this has been my cycle. Sometimes my successful times are longer than the un-successful times, but it is definitely a cycle.
I think you have to focus on the true reasons that make you want to be healthy, whatever they are, and really keep them in mind every day. I've also found that logging EVERYTHING, EVERY day helps a lot. Even if I'm not eating well and going way over my allotted calories, if I log it, I feel more accountable and it keeps it in my mind a bit. Sometimes just doing it, like Nike says, is the best way. Just don't let yourself sit down, go do it. My breaking point was when I realized I have an ENTIRE closet and dresser full of clothes that are too small. Like, I can't fit them AT ALL. I had to buy "fat girl" shirts and two pair of pants. That was all I would allow myself to purchase. My motivation is to fit my skinny clothes again. That, and I feel so fat and tired that I never want to go anywhere and I'm always too embarrassed in front of people because I know my clothes don't fit well.
Whatever your breaking point is, just write it down or think about it every day and do one thing each day to help toward your goal. One thing a day. And just keep trying, don't give up. You can do it!!0 -
I know that feeling of not getting able to start or keep up with something. You should set up some goals, and be really specific about it. Whatever works for you.-
In my case what got me going was writing all my goal in an acrylic board, I wrote everything I wanted to do that I knew I could accomplished every day, week and some for the month. Once something is done I strike it with red marker (just for a pop of color) and just the feeling of the red striking makes me want to keep striking things of.
My point is try everything that might get you going, once you find something that works use it for three or four weks and by the time you know reaching your goals will become part of your daily routine.

Same for me-I just snapped and couldn't stand to go on one more day living that way. I planned to stay on for 21 days straight to make it become a habit. Worked great for me, just say I'm going to do 21 days and take it from there.0 -
Perhaps you need a workout buddy? Or maybe you could stick a fitness calendar on your refrigerator with a goal for each day: walk 20 minutes + 10 sit-ups + 3 push-ups (adapt it to your current capacities with progressive challenges to keep you motivated). Good luck! :-D0

So far I've set my phone to let me know when I haven't eaten or signed in my diary for the hours I should be eating a meal. I find that sticking with a regular eating schedule helps me to keep on track. That way you are not starving and I always schedule in snacks during the hours that I most enjoy them.0
