Fitness Careers

Options
Has anyone on here been so inspired and motivated by supporting others and receiving support that they decided to pursue a career in fitness in some capacity? I am at this point where I feel that I may want to pursue a career as a nutritionist, personal trainer, yoga teacher or life coach. I just had this epiphany where I asked myself what in my life I cannot live without, and the answer was my workouts and focus on diet and health and I especially love being a motivator here on MFP! oh course now I am about to grad with a BS in something completely unrelated, so my journey to this realization could be looonnggg. BUT! I would love to hear some stories :)

I've thought about it, but haven't actively pursued anything yet, so consider this a *bump!*

I have. I became a Beachbody Coach while doing Engineering. I found that I loved it so much I decided to get certified in PT, Nutrition, Therapy, and teach group fitness classes like boot camp. Now it's my full time job :)

Yes I have also felt that same way! I find myself wanting to learn more and would love to get paid for something I'm already doing. I have yet to pursue it, so sorry I'm not much help there....but just wanted you to know you're not alone in this feeling :)

I actually talk about doing this everyday. Unfortunately I am in the same boat as you. I graduated in 2010 with a BS in an unrelated field. That's okay though, I'm thinking about becoming a personal trainer as a side job, learning business more, getting an MBA as well, then pursuing my true goals. I love health, fitness, and helping others. It's sooo rewarding:) Good Luck and I wish you success!

Too funny! I was just talking about this with my wife the other day.

I still have a way to go to hit my goals but once I do. I would love to get certified as a personal trainer so that I would be able to help other people the way I have been helped.

I have also looked into a Nutritionist certification. This requires a degree.

Me too although I'm zig zagging with my career path! I loved the gym so became a gym instructor but left as wasn't happy with certain things. A few years later I've piled the weight on and hating my office job so thinking about my next step. I'm currently doing a few courses and once I've lost weight I would like to do some classes and train to be a pt. :)

It's my career choice and I embrace it fully. Though money helps, it's not about the money and if you pursue it for that reason, then you'll be missing the actual joy of why you should do it. It's so gratifying watching people succeed and knowing full well that you had a hand in their success. That's what it's all about. If you do that for them, then you've gained a friend for life and you can't have too many friends. Also you know, unlike some other jobs, that you actually do make a difference in others lives instead of hoping you do.

I have lol planning a long road to get my Associate of Science with an emphasis in Physical Education/Exercise and Sport Science then eventually transfer to Portland State for my BA in Physical Activity/Exercise with a minor in community education :) I still have a bit to lose though, so my goal while I am in school for the next year is continue to work on getting to my goal weight and increasing muscle strength and endurance. Then next summer hope to get my cert in personal training so I can start working in the field so I can get hands on experience to go along with my education. In losing half of me, I have finally found a ME that is getting happier by the day, and since deciding to go this direction, even happier! I originally was going to do my RN, but for too long it didn't sit well with me. Now I could not be happier!

I have been in a sit-down office job doing administrative work for over 12 years now. I have always been overweight and for the first time, about 3 years ago, I made lifestyle change and began working out. I am less then 10 pounds away from my goal weight and feel better than I ever have! Working out, running and bike riding have become my hobbies and favorite things to do.

I am now thinking about persuing a career in fitness or weightloss management because I would love to help others achieve thier goals. If anyone has tips or suggestions on how to go about doing this, I would love to hear them. Thanks!

I decided to make a career of it, so I am attending Cal U of PA to simultaneously earn bachelors and Masters degrees in Exercise Science (focus on rehab and corrective exercise) and National Academy of Sport Medicine (NASM) certifications to be a certified personal trainer (CPT) and Corrective exercise specialist (CES). I also am in the process of changing the focus on my fight promotions business to training and fitness!

NASM education is integrated into the curriculum of accredited bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs offered by two universities, the California University of Pennsylvania and the Arizona School of Health Sciences. I know for sure that the program at Cal U is offered online, and if you choose to continue on to a graduate degree, there are several areas of focus to choose from.
