Wow...I am keeping track of what I am eating for the first time in years. I am trying to keep within my limits, but really I want a realistic view of the calories I've been consuming! I see why I've gained so much weight now. How in the world does everyone stay within 1200 calories without being hungry?

  • You get used to it, let your body adjust... plus there are LOTs of low-cal, very filling foods out there, you just gotta look for them. Also, if you work out, you get to eat more (although there's much debate on this topic).

Feel free to add me and look at my diary. I consume about 1200 calories a day.

Exercise and eat your exercise calories back.

Cut processed foods, anything prepackaged and stick to fruits veggies and lean proteins and you'll find it hard to hit 1200.

    most don't b/c 1200 cals isn't enough.
or they eat better foods which aren't processed and get more for the cals they do eat.

Correct. You need at LEAST 1200 calories a day. More if you're exercising.

I do not stay within 1200 calories...I think I would starve! :) I am at 1600 right now, started tracking at 2000. I plan on getting to 1400 and maintaining this in order to create a lifestyle that I can keep up forever.

The amount of calories you "should" consume is related to your height, weight, sex, and age factors. :)

You will get used to eating less, just gotta go through the sucky part of waiting while your stomach shrinks. It really doesn't take that long though, then you'll feel full on less. :)

High protein foods keep you fuller longer! And they help you lean out - double bonus!
  • Food selection - and tracking is really helpful with this. Fill your plate with fresh steamed or raw veggies. They are filling and good for you. Select leaner proteins (chicken over beef, for example). 1200 becomes very managable and satisfying when done right.

    Good luck!

I'm so glad I read this - I was allowed 1470 initially and have been really hungry - so much so yesterday turned into a graze-a-thon.

I honestly have no idea what my previous intake was - if work is busy I quite often end up missing lunch and snack instead - I think its gradual habit change I need and feeling hungry isn't going to help that.

I've drop my weekly weight loss goal to 1lb and thats given me more calories which I think will be better for me.......

But lets not talk about the carbs.........
  • Eat foods with lots of fiber and protein. They make you feel fuller. its hard to at first i started mine at 1500 a day and now i barely hit 1200 calories ive actually had to eat extra foods just to hit 1000. eating a big breakfast and eating every 3-4 hours will help you not get so hungry. If you are an emotional eater try when you get mad or sad or whatever to go for a walk or do something to keep your mind off of it. Everything takes time you dont gain all the weight over night and you wont lose it all over night. I personally stay on a daily regimin. I eat breakfast then 4 hrs later i eat lunch and then 3 hours later i eat a small snack and then 3-4 horus i eat dinner and then i have another snack if i am hungry at 8 and then i am done for the night. I do not eat after 9 pm. also i was told by my doctor that while on a diet try not to eat any sugary foods past 3 pm. Good Luck

I have put myself on 1200 but only because I find it keeps me closer to a reasonable calorie allowance I don't beat myself up if I go over as even then I am still eating at a deficit for my height and weight etc. I also have problems excercising so can't always earn more.

When I started I logged what I was eating on a normal day and found I was eating nearly 3000 calories with no exercise no wonder I had a weight problem.
