Giving up at 41?

This is an article I heard about on the radio...under "Stupid News" category.

It was just a silly blub I heard repeated on some silly morning radio show that I might have blown off at another time, but I turned 41 in April of this year and the voices in my head were telling beginning to whisper that maybe it was ok to stay a size 10 or 12 for the rest of my life, and that I'd never have abs or be able to work out as much as I'd like...

Anyway, I thought I'd google it to share in hopes that it helps motivate more people too!

The Average Age When People Let Themselves Go is . . . 41
Tuesday June 14th, 2011

A new survey has figured out the average age when people FINALLY give up on their lifelong quest to have abs, and realize it's time to enjoy hanging out on the couch eating ice cream.

According to the survey, the average age when people "let themselves go" is . . . 41.

Around age 41, people start eating more . . . and their metabolism has slowed down to the point where they REALLY can't get away with it. People also exercise less, so they start to put on weight. (Daily Mail)

LOL And some of us just get started at that point!!
At 40 I ran my first 2 marathons, at 41 my first 2 bike races, first 3 duathlons and tossed in another marathon just for good measure :)
I'm so hooked on the duathlons and building the muscles to help me get faster!

I'm 61 and though my goal isn't killer abs, I definitely have not given up. My interests and goals, and body are not the same as at 41, Not a surprise. I don't want to be stagnant.
At work they call me to "Groovy Granny".

I'm 46 and just starting on my healthy living kick! I've never been this slim or fit, so obviously statistics are just made up to make a news story.

Throwing the BS flag...I am 50 and most people think I am 25.
  • i wish somebody would have told me that 3 years ago!! Now, after I have been working out and running 5k's and such. Hmm who was the brainchild who "discovered" that at 41 is when you give up, interesting. NOT!!!
  • I am 37 and I plan on being HOT at 41!

I agree...NO WAY am I giving in at 41....and a lot of people think I'm much younger,

Sadly, I do have to say, when I look at some of my high-school friends on facebook and bump into some people around town...I tend to think a lot of them have in face, succumbed to this statistic!

I was kind of there too - figured I couldn't change or just was too lazy to at 44.

    That was almost-twenty-pounds-lighter-and-running-my-first-5k-Saturday ago.

I know alot of hot women who are in thier 40's, but it is true, if you don't taker care of yourself in your 40's your weight and your health will not be too good. you don't 'rebound' as quick for sure. But for me at 43 I feel great!

  • Yes I am 49 and ready to give up my metabolism has slowed enormously ,I lose and again the same pounds I truly donot know how to jumpstart my metabolism, taken green tea ,push myself to exercise, try to eat clean, drink skinny water ,eat within the recommended calories nothing is making the scale move consistently, forget the 6 pack abs.
