I had heard from the nutritionalist that I was seeing that whey protein is good. She told me to make shakes, it takes the place of a meal.... or a healthy snack.0

the only reason why you would need protein powder is to meet your proetin needs. When weightlifting/bodybuilding the standard amount of protein is 1 gram per pound of body weight. So people just use the powder to help them hit there macro numbers, also protein powder has virtualy no fats or carbs and has a very good amino acid profile.0

I take it because I don't eat meat and I need a little extra help getting enough protein many days. Most people don't need protein powder.0

I use them to stay closer to my body's nutritional needs. I don't get enough - so I supplement. :flowerforyou:0

I'm under doctor's orders to eat a certain amount of protein per day, and it would be extremely difficult to do without protein powders.
Also, they're great for baking, if you are avoiding gluten or carbs. There are many people like me who have to avoid grains due to celiac disease, or severely limit their carbs because of diabetes, PCOS, hyperinsulinemia, epilepsy etc. So I've used protein powder to make everything from muffins to cheesecake.
My doctor does recommend (for everyone, not just me) eating or drinking some protein immediately after a workout. And personally, I am never hungry, but I'm always terribly thirsty right after a workout, so I always go with a protein powder drink at those times too.
With that said, if you're already getting plenty of protein through regular foods, there's really no reason to use powder.0 -
I used to drink Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate Protein Powder. I stopped because I am always way over my protein w/o it. But I loved it. Was very tasty!!0
