Hello all - I'm 28 wks pregnant - but i'm already thinking about losing weight after I deliver - my question is does anyone know how many calories I have to add to my daily allotment if I plan to nurse?

It would depend on how much the baby feeds, but i think the guideline is around 500-800 extra calories. If i were you i wouldn't worry too much about dieting whilst nursing, you will loose a lot of weight whilst nursing anyway, and you need to keep your energy up. Good luck0

Good question!
I don't know but maybe google La Leche League. They are a nursing mother advocate with lots of info.
Nice baby tummy too.0 -
If you are exclusively breastfeeding, you get up to 500 extra calories a day, and after baby is 6 months old and on solids, its about 300
You can just type in "breastfeeding" into your food journal and it will come up
Hope that helps
Congrats too!0 -
Hi there, congrats on your pending arrival.
When you're breastfeeding you burn roughly about 500 cals just through that alone, depending obviously on how much your little one feeds.
To be honest tho, I wouldn't stress about losing the weight too soon, you're about to get the most precious gift you can ever have and it takes 9 months to put your weight on, so give yourself a break, enjoy the time with your baby and the weight will probably take care of itself... I gave myself 6 months of feeding my 2 kids, and I found the baby weight came off quickly, but then I was lucky and could eat anything I wanted when I was pregnant and only put on about 24lbs with each...shame I can't do that now, lol!!
Just another tip, try and be as relaxed as possible when you start trying to feed your baby...he or she will pick up on any anxieties :0)0 -
you will want to add in roughly 500 extra calories a day. I am currently still nursing my 16 month old and for awhile I was only consuming 1200 calories a day and I could really tell the affect on my supply it had, but once I increased my calories back up I was good to go.0

I don't know the answer to your question, but there are topics in the forums for pregnant women. I think they are under support/motivation. I am sure if you jump on that forum - the ladies there will help you out alot. I know a few of my friends on here are on that support group. Best of luck to you. Love the baby bump pic by the way.0
