Come on people! To, too, two - it's not that hard to use the right one.
to - direction, limit, or contact (turn to the the right, grew to 4 feet tall, attached to the wall)
too - To a higher degree than is desirable, permissible, or possible; excessively (me too, too much food);
two - a number (2).

there - a place
their - possessive
they're - they are

This is driving me crazy!

Rant over.

Well, hello their. I'm sorry your having such a tough time with this.

    ;-)
  • I appreciate your effort and whole heartedly agree with you. Sadly, this will be lost on most people as we have tried to burn this into brains for a loooong time. No success.

Lol, I'm with you on this.

Some more that annoy the living hell out of me:

    are/our
    your/you're
    lose/loose

    Maybe I'm just pedantic?

I chalk up most of these to typos, and not re-reading before posting. I see it in my students' work all the time (I teach 7th grade math and language arts, and 7th/8th grade remedial language arts). Most people -I believe- know the difference, but just aren't taking the time to proofread. Since this is an internet forum and not published work, you're going to see a lot of this.

Not a homophone, but still a point of irritation. I cannot STAND it when people say "verse" in place of versus. Like versus is a plural version and verse is the singular. Come on, people, the word is versus and it's used as "Ali versus Foreman". It is not "verse". No, no no. :grumble:

Another non-homophone, but still makes me grind my teeth.
People around here say 'jamp' instead of 'jumped'. IT'S NOT EVEN A WORD!!!!

    Dear OP.

i totally thought this thread would be about homophobes and yet another poster had spelled a word incorrectly in the title.

    Signed,
    Thoroughly Disappointed.

Im very bad at spelling, with a pretty damn valid reason why,but sometimes I make mistakes on purpose in the hopes that somewhere I might be driving a person crazy

So true. Missed it. Falling asleep at my desk this afternoon. :-)

None of the above were actual sentences. I wonder who that will annoy.

As a teacher, I agree! We shouldn't be so critical of others who post on this site.. when ultimately, it's only a forum! As adults we should know/understand that not everyone has the same education and writing skills.

Hey off topic and I am sorry, but my twins are in 7th grade. I hate 7th grade math! I learned it a different way and the kids are telling me they HAVE to do it the teachers way. who cares as long as you get the same answer?!?!?

    Rant over! Sorry again!

    Nobody is perfect

Leave people alone.... You do not know why they make mistakes and they may have valid reasons and your Perfect post comments may send them away from using the boards and that is not the purpose of these boards...

    This is not English Class..
