Reward Strategy

Do you believe in rewarding yourself for every accomplishment/goal? I used to reward myself with a dessert or something like that whenever I met my goal. However, I've been reading that it's not a good strategy to reward yourself with food. What are some good rewards that could make me feel better about what I'm doing and make the struggle less hard without compromising my weight loss? I'm trying to lose 40 lbs and I'm also wondering what kind of goals I should set for myself. I've always just done the "I need to lose 5 lbs" thing so this is big for me. HELP!!!!

I'm getting a cute haircit when I lose 10 lbs!!

I like rewarding myself with pretty things-- clothes, accessories, makeup, whatever. I love getting stuff like that, and I try not to waste my money and buy it very much... because of that, it's always a treat when I do buy myself something new

Clothes shopping - it is such fun to be able to fit into a smaller size.

I am in the same boat. I don't know what to reward not just myself, but I have found myself doing the same thing for my daughter. I am trying very hard to come up with things that aren't food related. I like the hair cut idea!!

Last time I reached a major goal I rewarded myself with a kayak :) But for small goals I always find small non-food things to reward myself with. Right now I've got my eye on a new pair of New Balance shoes.

These are my go to items too! When I hit my last goal, I bought myself a dress. When I hit my ultimate goal I am going to go jean shopping. Until then i just buy cheap stuff at goodwill.

I don't reward with food either. The stuff I used to love doesn't taste as good anymore anyway, and I'd never want to celebrate my hard work by doing something to sabotage it and end up feeling disappointed in myself!

In the beginning, I rewarded myself with new workout clothes..nothing expensive, just new pants, some cheapie tank tops, etc...but now I'm 9 lbs from my goal, so the big reward is going to be a much-needed new wardrobe!

How about manicure/pedicure? Massage? Some expensive nice perfume or some fabulous shoes?

I always reward myself when I reach a smaller size by cleaning out my closet and giving my old clothes to my friend that is rigth on my hells in her weight loss. Once I give them to her, I get new ones! I always make sure to buy something that I would have NEVER bought before when I was bigger... like jeggings! I know, sounds insane, but I actually bought a pair for my last reward and I've gotten more than a few compliments, so I think it was a good move.

So that's a good reward... especially when it's a new item of clothing that you wouldn't have thought to try before!
  • My goal is to go sky diving when I make it under 200 pounds. When I reach my goal I'm getting my tattoo (I've wanted it for a while). Reward yourself!

Mine currently is a Navy Contract (hopefully).

After I get that I am going to set a goal to lose another 15lbs. If I get that before bootcamp I am going to reward myself with a new eyeshadow box from Urban Decay because the only thing I love more than food is awesome makeup :)

Great point on the 'wouldn't have bought before". I got a MUCH shorter skirt yesterday than I would ever have bought before, and I'm wearing it out tonight to surprise my husband because he loves skirts and I usually only wear jeans when we go out!
