Water Intake

I am doing really well getting my 8 cups (64 oz.) of water each day, but it is mainly consumed in the latter part of the day. I am sloooow to get going in my day (total night owl), so I don't eat/drink much before 2 or 3 p.m.
So, I'm curious...
Does it matter when the water is consumed?
Is it better to space it out evenly?
Or consume most of it earlier in the day?
Or do I have too much time on my hands to ponder such silly things?

Hey,
Try this hydration calculator, you will be surprised how much water you should actually be drinking especially when you exercise: http://www.wateraid.org/uk/get_involved/drink_more_water/1415.asp

Among other things, it helps aid digestion, so I'm guessing its best to pace it thoughout the day, but it can be hard depending on what you're doing...
I do good during the week at work and can have a bottle on my desk all day, but weekend are harder when I'm running around or doing other things and forget....

I have no scientific basis for my thoughts, but I feel like I have more energy in the morning when I drink water. I also usually wake up thirsty, and I've always heard we should listen to our bodies about these things. My guess is that drinking 64 oz of water in a day (anytime during the day) is good and will help with weight loss, but I'd suggest trying to drink more in the morning and see how you feel.0

Holy Crap! It says I need to drink 16 glasses a day!0

Thanks for posting the calculator. I actually drink 2 more glasses than what is recommended.0 -
I've often wondered the same thing! Most days I've got my 8 glasses in by the time I leave work, but weekends are more difficult to remember so I ususally have more water in the evenings on weekends. I've also found that it's much easier to drink cold tap water instead of ice cold water...seems to just go down easier. Maybe I'm weird, though!0

Drinking throughout the day is going to be best for hydration.0

Logically my mind tells me it is best to drink water throughout the day as to keep you hydrated, a hydrated body performs better...
Scientifically speaking I have nothing to offer, perhaps someone else does?0 -
Thanks for the hydration calculator, Paul! It recommends that I drink 10 glasses of water each day... I find myself running constantly to the bathroom as it is!
I am going to try to keep a bottle of water next to my bed and drink some water before I even get out of bed in the morning.0 -

That thing is awful tbh.
It doesn't take into account how much water you get from other sources. It assumes you eat nothing with water in, and drink nothing else other than pure water...
Tbh, pure water can be just a supplement to your daily water intake you get from Tea/coffee/soda/juice/milk etc. Not to mention most fruits and veggies are largely water.
If you're eating healthily, and are having tea/coffee etc anyway, the amount of pure water you actually need to drink is very low.

Great tool. I drink a lot of water, but was surprised by how much they said I should drink.0 -
I would assume that drinking a lot of water at any point during the day would be better than not at all, but I'm sure it's better to drink it here and there throughout the day. That is what I do. I used to keep a bottle of Diet Pepsi by my side 24-7... now it's water. Just take sips here and there, and you end up drinking a lot over the course of the day.0

You're absolutely right in everything you say. 'Experts' also say that tea and coffee, etc. can form part of you're typical 8 glasses (or whatever) a day, however water on its own is healthier than tea or coffee and I think that is part of the message on that web site (It also aims to bring water to those countries that don't have any clean water). Personally I could never drink as much as 17 drinks it tells me in any day, but this is a good guide.0
