Good excuses for not eating or drinking as much as usual?

We are going out with friends tonight. I want to be prepared for the questions about food and drinks choices. I just know someone is going to ask if i am pregnant  Definitely not. Does anyone have any good one liners or other distractions??

You could answer their questions perhaps.0

Anybody that I am good enough friends with for them to question my eating habits, I am good enough friends with to tell them the truth.0

Agree with previous posters. What's embarrassing about being healthy?0

No need to say diet or losing weight if you are not comfortable discussing. You can always just mention that you are trying to make healthy eating choices, like more vegetables or less sodium, or whatever works for you depending on what you ordered.0

"I don't want anything, thanks"
How hard is that?0 -
Say you are on anti biotics and therefore shouldn't drink alcohol. As for the food, I will have a think on that...0

I agree with both of you!0 -
I agree with the previous posts as well. Maybe there is something we dont know or understand about why you would feel the need to lie......??? I cant think of any other excuse for eating right other than to be healty/fit.0

Sometimes not being truthful about why you're not drinking makes life easier- Pretend you're still hungover from the night before.0

Just explain very briefly that you are on a diet, but looking forward to a yummy meal with your friends. The trick here is to be honest, without making the other diners feel awkward for eating what they want. Answer the question and then change the subject.0

I just say...I am counting calories and don't have room! I always do a big work out before going out with friends so I do have calories to spare. Also I stick with Select 55 or vodka and soda. I am a drinker and have never been good enough to go completely without drinking!0

I'm just honest now, I'm not ashamed to say that I'm trying to eat better and lose weight.
If they really are your friends they won't question your answers.
Enjoy your night!0 -

It sounds easy but I understand completely why it isn't. When I am with friends they really put pressure on you to 'enjoy yourself' and 'go on, treat yourself.' What their version of 'treating yourself' and yours and probably entirely different. I know what it feels like to feel like you stand out because you are constantly saying no to things. It's not their fault, they are just not health concious. Good luck!0 -
Your doctor wants you to watch your sodium and sugar intake? Blood tests came back bad?0

I usually offer to be the DD when going out with friends, that way there is NO pressure to drink. I have also often found myself saying simply "because I like it" when questioned about a food choice. Another thing I like to do, is say "I don't need the extra calories" and then give some facts and figures about food, and health. Did you know that over 2/3 of the population is overweight?0

I always reply with "Because I don't want to." It usually works pretty good.0

I assume you are trying to avoid the 101 questions that come after you say you're dieting. How about just trying some new things.0

She never said she wanted lies...she wants one liners or distractions. I totally get it. You say you are watching calories or dieting and it can start a big conversation and put the spotlight on you. I hate that. I think saying "I'm just watching what I eat" or "eating cleaner", or "not very hungry" or "just don't feel like drinking today" or "i've splurged recently and am balancing my eating", are all perfectly acceptable, and hopefully won't draw too much attention. Hope that helps!0

My friends are usually too busy talking and laughing to really notice what I'm doing or to question what I am eating. I usually plan, in my mind what I am going to have. That way I can start the conversation by saying "Have you had the ??? here? It is really great!" Then they will order it too. Drink wise I stick with dirty martini(s) 251 calories which I usually have available anyway. I'd rather have a dirty martini than a burger, pasta, french fries, candy bars.........:blushing:0 -
You can maybe head off with something like "I am really craving veggies (or other item)"
If they are trying to encourage you to eat what you don't want "I am not in the mood for (insert item)"
As far as drinking... you might just order a drink and just "not get around to drinking it" and drink your water or other beverage instead. I have done this a few times.0 -
Just be honest in my opinion..0
