So, it snowed where I live last night- which means that we made beef stew of course!
AND it was only 185 calories for a HUMONGOUS bowl of it!

Ingredients:
-0 cal cooking spray or a nonstick pan
-1 lb of beef loin, pretty lean- 699 calories
-2 cups of chopped celery- 28 calories
-1 cup chopped carrots- 52 calories
-1 cup chopped mushrooms- 15 calories
-1 medium onion- 46 calories
-1 cup frozen peas- 134 calories
-1 cup flour- 400 calories

Instructions:
-Cut up the beef to desired size, season as needed (I just used a touch of salt and pepper) and brown in the bottom of a stock pot
-Chop up the onions and add those to the stock pot
-Pour in about 8-10 cups of water
-Cook for about 30-45 min
-Cut up the carrots and add those
-Cook for 15 min
-Cut up the celery and add that
-Cook for 10 more min
-Cut up the mushrooms and add those
-Cook for 10 more min
-Add the cup of flour very slowly to thicken it up
-Add the frozen peas
-Stir, taste, add salt and pepper as needed
-Eat!
-Makes about 7.5 HUGE servings, I couldn't finish mine!

Calories: 185

It was so low cal that I had mine with 2oz of egg noodles- making a nice 385 calorie dinner!!
Enjoy!

I'll have to try that. Normally when I make beef stew I use chuck roast which is so fatty, even after I trim off like a pound of it. Another good thing about this recipe is that it doesn't take hours to cook, which is only necessary for tough cuts like the chuck. Lean meats need much less time since they are already tender. I'll look for some nice sirloin the next time I am at the grocery store.

This sounds great, we have a cold spell coming our way ,tonight would be a good nite for this.
    Could I use less flour?

Sure! You could use Konjac, it is zero cal type of yam flour and thickens things up really well
    Or just use less water!
