I have taken up long distance running over the past year. I am currently injured (hip). I have just taken a break from doing all activity. I recently began physical therapy. What are my options to continue working out?

Because your question pertains to a hip injury, you need to direct your question to a doctor or specialist who is working with you on your rehabilitation... definitely not a question to ask here

Swimming is going to be your best bet. It's low impact, and many gyms/natatoriums have heated pools during winter :)

I feel you pain. The doctor just gave me permission to "do that running thing" today after a few weeks of therapy ... finally. Just got back from hill work.

What about swimming? That was suggested by my doctor.

Hit the pool and complete some really challenging non weight bearing workouts. Also, if you can find a bike that works or does not agitate your hip, I suggest a recumbent type, this too may be an option. Never let injuries stop you from staying the course, just get more creative in your approach. Hope this helps.

  • I agree to ask your Dr about what physically you can do... You don't want to aggravate you hip problem. But I'm sure they can come up with some low impact exercise like water aerobics. Hope you get well soon.
