Protein at hand...

Need ideas for quick grab HIGH protein snacks. This is what I usually have but I am BORED TO DEATH.

tuna
hard boiled eggs
almonds
yogurt

Also, I am no longer into smoothies (unless pre-prepared), so protein shakes are out...

Thanks in advance for any new/exciting/different/quick options to increase my protein intake.

xo

I know you don't want protein shakes, but how about protein chocolate milk? You just mix a scoop of chocolate flavored protein powder into a glass of milk. You get bonus protein from the milk you mix it in.

Chicken and turkey breast are also great sources.

Any type of low fat cheese. Pinto or black beans. Protein bar? Chocolate milk.

Full-fat cheese works just as well. Sometimes companies replace the fat with sodium or sugars to make it taste better.
  • My new found snack friend is "edamame." Dry Roasted (or steamed from the frozen vegetable section of the market), I really like it.

I just bought a package of Publix Deli brand Hickory Smoked Turkey Breast ... 12 grams of protein in just 2 ounces ... makes for a great quick snack. Also, beef and turkey jerky are good high protein snacks if you can tolerate the chewing! ;)

Small (3 ounce, I believe) cans of Starkist Tuna ... 21 grams of protein.

Jerky of some sort, be that beef, turkey, wild-game... watch the sodium if you're buying pre-made stuff though rather than just making it at home if your oven goes low enough (125 F... my digital controlled one doesn't go that low)

I could try that. Could I add it to coffee with milk? lol (this question is half serious)...

Probably not with hot coffee. I learned the hard way that protein powder + hot liquid = denatured proteins = globby nasty mess

Yes, the sodium is a slight concern, although i don't normally eat very much sodium, so here and there can't hurt. Thanks! (I wont be making my own jerky - too lazy for that! lol)

Why no shakes? It's tough to add protein w/o too many calories.

Darn. But thanks for the heads up. If someone were to invent a powder that could mix with coffee it would be HUGE moneymaker (just off me alone). ;)
