Prozac

I went to a psychiatrist today who proscribed Prozac for me. I have mild depression and a mixed eating disorder, restrictive/compulsive/binging disorder (quite the mix, I know). I want to feel better so badly. For those of you who take Prozac, how long did it take for you to feel better?

Research shows it takes 10-14 days for the effects to start.0

With most anti-depressents it takes about two weeks for it to build up in your body to its full effectiveness. I take another drug but I started to feel some relief in about a week, and then ended up being on too high of a dose and had to step back to a smaller dose. Best of luck its not fun. I know its not!

It can take up to two months to realize the full affects of the medication. Not one type of med works for everyone, so if this one doesn't make you feel great just keeping talking to your doctor until you find the one that works.0

Thanks, I wish it would work faster!0

10 years ago I was on Prozac for about 8 months. I wasn't on it for depression though. In my case, it was for Post Traumatic Stress.
It will give different results for everyone so the best advice I can give you is just discuss it with the psychiatrist on your visits. If Prozac doesnt appear to work for you he will prescribe something else.0 -
There is a good chance you will better. Everyone reacts differently to meds. It could be this one, could be a different one that works for you. It is OK to cry. Good, even.
You are strong for even mentioning your depression. It is a lot to deal with. Perhaps try not to work or worry too much about weight. Following the doc's advice is useful; a support group can be a big help, talking with people that "get it", that understand what your are dealing with.0
