I bought my Asics (Kayano's) in March of last year and let me just say they are no where near as comfy as they once were! I don't mind wearing them when I'm strength training or on the elliptical, but when I'm trying to run... they almost hurt? Is this normal? Do I need to replace them already?

Yes. They have broken down. I replace mine every 4 - 6 months depending on how many miles I'm running.

This thread has actually helped me as well. I've had my Puma's for a few years now, and my feet kill me at the end of my work-out... didn't realize they broke down so easily!

They could be worn out. You could also be wearing the wrong shoe for your foot type. Lots of great running info at runnersworld.com

Running shoes are only good for about 300-500 miles before they should be replaced (for running). The internal cushioning breaks down, leaving your feet unsupported where they initially were.

    Last year? As in 2010?
    Yes, they're worn down.

I replace my running shoes every 3-4 months or every 400 miles.

I've always heard what other people are saying -- after 300-500 miles or 3-6 months your running shoes should be replaced. The last time I bought shoes (at a quality quality running store) I asked the guy who was helping me about that. He gave me that standard line and then said "I can't afford to replace my running shoes that often. I buy new shoes every 8 months."
