Wrapping an Ankle?

I need new running shoes. They have just worn out the last 2 weeks but I have a 10K next week and I don't want to run in new shoes that far (this is my first 10K race). After running 5.8 mi yesterday, the inside of my right ankle hurts a lot. Like there is one point on the inside of the ankle that is just stabbing pain. I've heard before that wrapping it helps, but how do I wrap it? Does this sound like something that you have encountered before? What should I do besides buy new shoes (which I am doing immediately after the 10K race next weekend)???

I have a bad ankle that's always giving me problems. An ace bandage is fine, or you can buy braces/support things that you just slide or velcro on if you're nervous about wrapping a bandage too tight..you can buy those at CVS. When my ankle hurts I'll wear a wrap for a few days to keep it still, and take ibuprofen for the pain if it's really bad. If it only hurts a little I'll even wear a sports support wrap while I run, just to keep it a little more stable. You know your body best though, so if you think you might make the injury worse by running on it, don't risk it!
Good luck, hope your anky feels better!0 -
I ended up hurting mine right before a race last weekend.. I went to walmart and bought a brace they have a few different ones but the one i liked was black and it just strapped around and fit in my shoe.
As for running with new shoes, if you were to buy them now and use them all week before the race they should be fine by the race. Thats what my husband did. he literately had holes in the bottom of his :-)
Good luck on the race hope your ankle feels better soon0 -
I'd say get new shoes (unless you are making a switch from regular runners to the barefoot runners).... Chances are the padding is also gone too, and it might hurt worse.... I just switched new shoes on Monday and I ran 10 miles this morning, and I did great....
However, if your ankle is still gving your problems - they have quite a few options out there at the stores... I'd consider the premade ones that you can just slide on and adjust the straps.... Regular wrapping works too, but I've found it's not as good if you do it yourself...Mine always seems to get a little bit loose about 15-30 minutes in....0
