I don't get it...

I put on my size 33" waist slacks and feel pretty fit and trim.. I measure my hips and waist with sewing tape (cloth) measure, and both are > 6" larger then the size of my slacks. What gives? Is "Old Navy" lying to me, or does hip/waist size measured not necessarily = pant size?

Thanks! I'm not necessarily bothered by it, just curious about the discrepancy...

I know with women our waists are actually much higher and smaller than where our pants hit.

Now measure the waist band in your pants. That will give your answer. Also, almost every brand can vary in measurements. Old Navy does some...I think they call it..."vanity" sizing for women...So I don't know if its the same for guys or not.

it all depends on where you wear your pants...

have you tried measuring the pants waist band to confirm?

Old Navy is bad about that. I've known more than one guy that has said his measurements don't align with Old Navy brand pants' sizes.

So yeah, I measured the waist band... and it's definitely not 33" lol. So much for "truth in advertising" hey? Oh well... now I know the truth.

Yeah, in Old Navy I wear a size 20, but in all actuality I wear a 22/24. Its decieving. Especially when I go from a 22/24 at Lane Bryant to a TWENTY at Old Navy! Boyyyyy I thought was losing weight! Aaaand...nope...just different stores. Jerks.
  • The american clothing market is INSANE! I notice that they are making sizes bigger and bigger but still labeling them the same. its because so many americans are so fat and they are trying to make them feel better about themselves. dont worry about the number on the pants you are wearing, 90% of t hem are wrong (according so research I read). I am a size 7 when I shop in europe, no matter the store or the country. but i was in GAP recently and put on a size 0 and then into another store and was a 9! so go by the way you feel, not the bullcrap they put on clothing labels.
