Hi everyone.
I am enjoying being on my fitness pal and I find it really useful, sticking to 1200 calories a day can be tough especially if you have a sweet tooth. I am never hungry on the 1200 calories a day but I am craving soooooo much for sweets that its unreal. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to swap sweets for something that's low in calories but still tastes sweet because I have tried everything I can think of.

cut up strawberries with low/no cal sweetener, grapes, cantaloupe, oranges! any type of sweet fruit! or I like to do the Trail Mix fruit and nut bar! Atkins's protein bars have chocolate, caramel, things like that. hope it helps!: ]0

I know a friend of mine posted she had a low carb/low cal yogurt and put a spoonful of cocoa powder in it, it was 68cals total I think. She said its delicious! I havent tried it yet since she just posted it yesterday, but it def sounds good.0

I like to snack on fresh pomegranate seeds when I'm having a sweet craving. I pick them up one by one, so it takes a while, and the sweet-tart taste is pretty satisfying. Of course, sometimes you just need some chocolate! Dark chocolate is good for you in small doses! Could you get yourself a nice dark chocolate bar & limit yourself to one square a day?0

I'm new here. Yes, I have the same craving! I've fallen off the wagon with candies! I need HELP with that. I need ideas on how to swap them too!
I don't really enjoy fruits. Do you? If so, have you always liked fruits? Or did you learn to like them?0 -
I have found that the best way to quell the sweet tooth is to make sure I eat a healthy meal/mini meal every 3 hours or so. I've been told that works because it keeps the blood sugar stable to eat protein and carb every time. For me, if I have 1 sweet thing, then it leads to another and then quickly snowballs.0

Fruit fruit and fruit. But I find taking Chromium Picolinate helps to better utilize your Insulin and has taken away my sweet cravings:).
I have also acquired a taste for Dark chocolate and I can tell you besides being Yummy I don't miss any of the other sweet stuff.
Yes agree with Mabug.... eating small meals every 4 hours does help as well!0 -

Always enjoyed, but maybe if you dress them up a bit you could like them made in that way... Like applesauce w/ cinnamon? Fruit sprinkled with sugar free jello?
Strawberries with a little bit of yogurt or dark chocolate?
For a non-fruit sweet craving, you have to try Fiber One 90 calorie brownies. SO GOOD! I also love Skinny Cow candy. GL!0 -
I'm awful, but I reward myself with a "fiber one" brownie every night. They're only 90 calories and taste decent. Sometimes I add frozen yogurt and cut up strawberries if I have an extra-long work out that day :-)0

Are you sure 1200 is the right number? You don't look overweight at all and you don't look extremely short --- if you have under 20 to lose, are your settings to lose 1/2 lb a week?
my favorite "Sweet" is buying Fage 0% plain yogurt (6oz containers) and adding pumpkin pie spice, agave, chia seeds and walnuts. Sometimes I mix in sugar-free pudding mix or flavored coffee creamers for extra taste. Can also mix in protein powder...frozen fruit... its the perfect high protein, low carb, low sugar snack you can make taste however you want if you're creative....0 -
Arctic Zero ice cream or more properly named "frozen dessert" a little bit not he expensive side but if you truly have a sweet tooth the way that you do an entire pint of ice cream for only 150 calories should definitely do you justice. I recommend vanilla maple, mint chocolate, cookies and chocolate and chocolate peanut butter.0

I love those Stoneyfield Farms yogurt "Chocolate Underground", think that's the name but it's expensive. I will have to try yogurt with cocoa powder and see! Thanks for sharing, Tara!FTMVA!
Mabug01, yes it does snowballs if I begin with just one! I totally agree with keeping a balanced meal all day long. I need to work on that!
Thanks!0 -
I Love Icecream so I now have a Yoplait Forme Yoghurt and Frozen Raspberries, satisfys the craving and is 1/4 the cals.0

If you like pumpkin pie, try combining 1/3 cup of pureed pumpkin, 1/3 cup fat free vanilla yogurt, one package of splenda and a dash of cinnamon. It's around 75 calories, quite filling and deelish!0

I am sugaraholic the only way I can stop the cravings is to aviod it for a week or two then the cravings will not seem so bad. Eating regularly also seems to help.0

Hungry Girl has lots of ideas and I have a stash of Skinny Cow for my sweet tooth. The only thing I have personally noticed is that sweet things need to be my end of the day treat because if I have one earlier in the day I crave MORE sweet stuff for the rest of the day. Good luck!!!0

Wish I could see your diary, you should make it public, but, without seeing it I'll say this.
Drop your carbs and eat more protein. Carbs, (which get turned into sugar, if they're not sugar already), make you crave more carbs!
Have some turkey bacon or Beef jerky when you get a sweet tooth. Make protein a bigger part of your breakfast, and you won't crave sugar so much, and it will also keep your appetite down.0 -
We have tootsie rolls around the office and I grab one of them per day. They're only 25 calories and if you take little bites and savor each little bite, it's more than enough.0

Two teaspoons of Lyle's Golden Syrup!
- you can enjoy it slowly in front of the tv or a good film and it won't damage the calorie count! - MFP lists 3 teaspoons as 65 calories! (I take two and count three to be safe).
- it's so sweet that it will usually kick your sugar craving in the *kitten* and you'll struggle to go over three teaspoons without feeling sick so you're unlikely to binge...
I think it's perfect, a couple of teaspoons to look forward to at the end of the day is all I need!
Hope this helps someone out0 -
jello makes 5 calorie jello cups, they are so sweet, totally satisfying!0

Planters makes Pumpkin Spice Almonds that are slightly sweet and spiced. Also apples with fat free caramel dip are good and I love frozen grapes (very sweet!).0
-
I had that issue last night to the point that I had to walk myself over to Kings and purchase a container of strawberries and some fat free whipped cream. 2tbsp of whipped cream=5 calories--> Can't beat that!! Also, Special K makes a 90 calorie brownie. Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, sugar free fudge pops, flavor-ice....0

I just made some applesauce myself from fresh apples and they were delicious! I have to say also that I much prefer crunch foods, salty & sweet together. I'll have to check into these Fiber One bars.0

I agree with this.
If you're still craving, look into yummyearth lollipops. Sweet, low in cals and natural.0 -
Its not swapping but I put milky ways in the freezer, 60cals for a funsize and they last twice as long! Also saw in another post about putting bananas in the freezer and once completely frozen blend them and you have banana ice-cream - I've tried it and its great!0

This might be the result of your diet altogether. If you have a massive sweet tooth, that's usually aggravated by a higher-carb diet. So, if you can't be satisfied by eating a portion of fruit, I would recommend looking into a lower-carb lifestyle which will completely eradicate the cravings for sweets.0

No-sugar-added popsicles. 15 calories each!0

Snackwells makes a chocolate protein bar. its amazing
130 calories, 19? carbs, 8 protein, 6 or 7 sugars. its very well balanced. If i'm having a sweet tooth I will have one of those for breakfast. they are full of good stuff so they fill me up until lunch time and are sooooo yummy
I got them at walmart in a box of 5 or 6?
I get their info confused with my chocolate almond Kashi bars. (snackwells are much tastier)0 -
I usually pick up some dark chocolate covered bananas or cashews when I have the craving
The bananas are Diana's Banana Babies, and the cashews are just generic ones I get at CVS.0 -
If I am craving a sweet, I either have the sweet as my meal or make a sweeter meal like a big bowl of oatmeal with splenda, cinnamon and almond milk and maybe a few frozen raspberries. I will use wholegrain toast and sugar free syrup and p.butter to make my version of french toast. I had to up my calories a few weeks ago from 1200 to 1700 because after a year or more it started making me sick. With more calories I have less cravings, almost like depriving myself was causing me to want to binge. I just made a yam with brown sugar splenda and butter, it was heavenly, and for a chocolate treat I make a chocolate protein shake with almond milk, sugar free chocolate syrup, splenda and lots of ice in a blender,yum!0

If you log in your exercise daily you shoud be eating more than 1200 cals a day.0
