HI everyone - just wondering for those of you that have one, any recommendations for a good, not too expensive heart rate monitor? I have been looking, but there are so many out there, not sure which one to get. I know that I want one that I can wear on my wrist like a watch, and that counts calories burned, so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know !! Thanks.

I picked up mine in Chicago in 2007 at $29.99 and I still have it and love it.
It is not a very popular brand but I must say I have had no trouble with it since I purchased it. I have also only had to change my battery maybe 4 times over the years!!! The chest strap is easy to change the battery but the wrist watch has to be done by a watch guy:). Sorry I sound a bit strange but the HRM I am talking about is an Impulse 12 (Wrist watch with a chest strap) I even use it when I go swimming:) :)

I'm not sure what you're using it for, I have a forerunner 305 for my running. My friend works out mainly at a gym, think hers is called Polar HRM?

I want to use if for swimming laps to accurately count my calories burned and also just to wear when I am at the gym to see how accurate the machines at the gym are !!

The most popular ones from here seem to be either the FT4 or the FT7, by Polar. Both track calories burned, FT7 has a few extra features. Not sure if they are water resistant to track while swimming though.
  • Yep I have the Polar FT7 and it's great! It also mounts onto my bike! I'd make sure you get one that is water resistant. I'd also look online for a good deal as they are cheaper than buying from a shop directly.

I found the one I liked, I tried it on in the store, then came home and bought it $100 cheaper online and got it within the week.
