Hi all- Need some help. I am always going over my sugars (of course sometimes i know why) but even me eating cranberry or raisins in my oatmeal puts me over and i'm using the serving size. Is that ok or do i really need to eliminate sugar all together. Not going to lie that will be extremely hard for me if thats the case. HELP

Are you diabetic or do you have any other insulin related medical issues?0 -
I don't worry about sugars from fresh or frozen fruit that has no added sugar. Dried fruit or sugar from other sources I try to limit.0

Sugar is just a carbohydrate, i don't worry about it.
Worrying about anything besides carbs/fat/protein seems unnecessary to me (unless ordered by a doctor)
I don't track sugar at all. I had a lot of fruit the other day, and last night I has hot cocoa (shrugs)0 -
I would not eliminate all sugars just sugars from processed foods. I cannot see your diary, but I would recommend eating veggies, lean meats, cheese, whole grains, and fruits such as berries.0

I do not lose weight if I dont restrict my carbohydrates. My dietician said to eat less than 100g of carbs a day. What is your max limit? Perhaps it is too restrictive?0

I tried tracking sugar once. Was worried about it. Now I just turn it off and try to eat better in general. Some days my sugar is 130+g. I don't feel any different than if it was down around 50 - 60g.0

Same here i can never meet my goal for sugar and if i was to meet the goal for sugar i don't believe i would ever be able to eat the suggeseted amt of foods from each food group. i found this chart on http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=616 so i don't believe myftnesspal takes in consideration the type of sugar because this chart shows about exctly what myfitnesspal sets as my daily goal of sugar intake.
Less is More
So how much should you limit your sugar intake? Several health organizations, including the American Heart Association, suggest that added sugar should be limited to no more than 6-7 percent of your total calories. This does not include naturally occurring sugars found in fruits (fructose) and dairy products (lactose). The chart below lists the maximum recommended daily sugar intake based on various calorie levels.
Maximum Sugar Intake
Daily Calorie Intake Grams of Sugar Teaspoons
1,200 21 5
1,500 26 6
1,800 31 7
2,100 36 9
2,400 42 10
2,700 47 120 -
Thanks for the great feed back! I am prediabetic. My glucose is at 107 last I was tested and should be at 70-99 normal range. I was told to aim for 5-10% of my weight. I have been off soda for 5 days now which I BIG deal for me. Ice cream too but dried fruit i only have stuff like those raisins and cranberries which to me is far better than choosing processed sugar. I will take it as it comes and like you all said eat healthier in general! I'm just thinking one day at a time. My next blood work is 01/15/12. I'm definitely going to aim for low glucose levels. Thanks again all!0

Should stop reading these threads about sugars. Makes me want an apple each and every time!0

sugar, will be stored as a carb which will eventually be stored as a fat. can you change things up? maybe once in a while use the stevia or something..? how much are you going over in your sugars? try to stay away from a ton of the splendas, equals, etc cause they can cause your body to crave sugar more. also, the fake stuff is processed differently in the body and also causes your liver to work harder as well.0

If you don't burn it off, i.e. keep a calorie deficit. It wont be stored as fat if you make a calorie deficit.0
