Sedentary or lightly active?

I work as an ophthalmic technician. What we do is work up patients for the doctor, similar to a nurse. I work monday through thursday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and friday 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. I rarley sit down and we see 50 to 60 patients a day. What should my activity level be? I have in on sedentary now but I'm a little afraid of being to low on my calories. But I'm afraid to put lightly active and eat too much. I keep thinking if I have it on sedentary and I go over I'm covered, sorta like having a cushion, but I dont want that to be a crutch and I havent been goin over lately. I just dont want to lose to much to fast or end up gaining. What do you guys all think is the better way to go?

I think you are at least lightly active. There is an option for 'nursing', I think you should choose that activity level.

I'm an optician in a busy optometry practice... I'm set at lightly active. Some days it could be more, but I'm generally finding that this is good for me!

Just my $.02, but I'm thinkin' it's a rock paper scissors sort of decision. :)

Speaking just for myself, I switch stuff up fairly often -- including the calories I allow myself -- to see what works best. Too, I think switching things around from time to time isn't a bad thing for metabolism-wise. Once you've worked with MFP for a while, you can adjust your own settings yourself, if you want. But sticking with recommendations for a while is a great plan.

Welcome to MFP! Forward we go. :)

My suggestion. ditch the recommendations and customize your calorie goal.. Take what it would be as sedentary add that to what it would be as lightly active, divide by two and use that as your calorie goal. That way your in between the two, and can fully up to lightly active if needed or go down to Sedentary as needed.

I'm a teachers aid for special education students, so I have mine set as lightly active as I'm always running around the school either chasing kids or running errands for teachers.
