Practically NO dinner

I went back to work today, I've been out sick. I generally work 4pm-12am. Up until now I've been ok with dinner at home. With going back to work, we were so busy, I barely had any time to eat. What I did eat, just didn't FEEL right. I came home just not feeling right. Now it is 2am, and I need to get some sleep so I can head to the gym in the morning. Should I have a protein shake for dinner at work, or a salad, or what should I do???
I don't really want to go to bed hungry, but it's late and I don't want this to keep happening to me. Look at my food diary and if you could suggest something. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....

You are very low in carbs, I need more carbs than that to feel satisfied.0

first, sit down and plan your meals better. there were a couple there without any protein.
i dont know what you do at work, but i work the same shift and i talked to my employer about my nutrition requirements. i need to eat when i need to eat. ill eat at my desk, ill take a quick break but.....bottom line, i eat every couple hours. see if you can talk to whomever is in charge or HR and get them to understand that this is a requirement for you.
And then EAT during the day, according to your plan. you could have a protein shake on your way home at night...that may help you sleep better since you arent going to bed hungry.0 -
Oh just went back and looked at your diary and realized your are low in everything,,,protein and calories as well. You must be starving!0

oatmeal...0

From looking at your diary you aren't eating enough calories per day (without even breaking it down into the carbs protein etc)
A bigger lunch would also help!! - making you less hungry for dinner, or a snack right before your shift.0 -
i work weird hours to, when i get home late too, i don't want a big meal either, so i have a slimfast shake, it really does the trick, you'll be suprised how one shake can fill you up...0

I would suggest getting a type of Milk( almond milk or soy the list goes on) with the highest amount of calcium and Iron and make a protein shake since its fast to make. Or when you have time pre-make salads and leave the in your fringe and get those packed dressings( the low cal ones of course) and leave them in the pre packed salads. I know how you feel with not having enough time to do stuff. Maybe this will help ya.0

I'm no expert, but I'll tell you what I would add if it were me.
Yogurt
Protein Shake
Peanut Butter
Banana
Raw Almonds
Maybe even a Nutrigrain Bar if you're in a hurry
I also like making wraps with Flatout Bread, lots of salady stuff, pepperoni, a tiny bit of mozzarella, salsa, etc.
A nice warm bowl of oatmeal with peaches cut up in it or berries
There are tons of ideas out there. These are just my usual things I grab when I'm hungry and in a hurry or really low on cals.0 -
Do you work in a restaurant? With shifts like that it kind of seems like you might. I work at a restaurant and when we're on break or when it's slow we're welcome to use the ingredients to cook for ourselves and the crew as a whole. From talking to other people I know it isn't like this at many restaurants--we have pizza, sandwiches, salads, veggie bakes, soups, Thai food, Mexican, all kinds of things, even though we're an Italian restaurant. But you might want to talk to your boss about that maybe if I'm understanding right about your situation?0

I work in communications, sit at a desk all evening. Normally I would have ordered in a salad with LOADS of dressing on it. We were so busy tonight that I didn't get a chance to heat up my dinner (steamed chicken, brussel sprouts, mushrooms and onions) until after 10pm. By that time I was over hungry and didn't really have adequate time to sit and relax. Normally I take 45 min to 1 hour for dinner. It was just a horrible day for me. Thanks for all your advise.....0

You're going to bed hungry because you didn't eat enough today or Sunday... I get not feeling good but you need to do SOMETHING.
Personally if I know I'm going to be busy at work, too busy to have a knife and fork lunch here's what I do:
Precooked/Preportioned food: a couple times a week I cook a crap-ton of chicken breast tenderloins (flavoring how ever I choose) and section them off into 6oz portions (conveniently with the tenderloins 1 strip is 2oz so I just throw 3 in a baggie).
I preslice bags of veggies, cucumbers, bell peppers etc and portion out nuts and fruit and when I was eating dairy I kept a stock of Greek yogurt.
When you get up you fix a decent breakfast: think 1 whole egg and 2 whites scrambled with some veggies and a couple pieces of bacon (lots of protein and a little fat to keep you going)
Snack time? Greek yogurt? Maybe some fresh fruit (blueberries and greek yogurt with a little honey= YUMMO!)
Lunch and I'm running? I grab my baggie of chicken and eat it cold out of the bag with a side of sliced cucumbers or a bell pepper eaten like an apple and maybe half an avocado just spooned out of the skin with some black pepper on it.
Snack time again?! 3 o'clock doldrums? How about that baggie of almonds and some grapes or (my favorite) a couple spoonfuls of almond butter and some red globe grapes (the original PB&J YUM!!)
Dinner- too lazy to cook? Remember those baggies of chicken? How 'bout one of those and half a bag of frozen veggies in the microwave? Or remember those baggies of presliced bell peppers? Toss some of those with some onion in a pan to saute, throw in some chicken and serve it on corn tortillas with a little fresh pico de gallo and call it fajitas!
Need SOMETHING else before bed? Cottage Cheese, a nut butter of some sort, another piece of chicken...
(I don't recall now what your calorie allotment is but this will put you around 1400-1600 (skip the avocado and the almond butter to cut down some cals)
It's healthy, whole foods, it has a fair balance of protein and fat as well as carbs to keep you going...
Think through what you're doing and please please please PLEASE remember you need to fuel the machine to have it run efficiently- if you're only eating 800 calories a day you're not going to achieve what you want and you're going to be effing miserable the whole time you fail. (Trust me on this- it wasn't that long ago I had to be un-brainwashed and had to relearn that it was ok to eat and it was ok to eat things that tasted good.)0 -
I looked at your diary. Maybe you should stop trying to eat like you are on a diet. I am eating regular (real) food, but keep my portions within my diary limits. Sometimes I tweak the food to cut back the calories from sugar or fat, but I am not removing everything. I've done the diet thing with foods like are on your diary, but I always fail. This time I am eating healthy foods mixed with foods I really want to eat--my goal is to eat like I'll eat for the rest of my life. If a chicken breast and brussel sprout makes you happy, then great. However, if a BBQ pork sandwhich topped with coleslaw sounds good, make that work. You'll feel better and food won't be such drudgery. Hope this helps.0
