I'm (sort of) new too - just trying to lose a few pounds before Christmas. It was my first day yesterday and went to bed hungry, which I hate - so still getting used to it all!

I drank lots of water yesterday, and I think that helped....

    Hi Grace

I'm fairly new here too, but I was on a massive weight loss kick before I got married this September, here are a couple of things that worked for me:

    - Making home made soup - easy, quick, nutritious! Not many calories, you can make it tasty with spices etc. Loads of recipes online
    - Drink sparkling water (keep a bottle on your desk at work) it fills you up, also herbal tea
-Start running (even if you hate it like me!), a quick, 20 minute run at an easy pace burns 300 calories! There's nothing like it for dropping weight, it will transform you. Search online for 'Couch to 5k' runninf programme podcasts, they're free and very motivational
    - Make fruit and veg a higher proportion of your meals.
    - Reduce white starchy carbs (rice, pasta, bread) and find better alternatives like cous cous, butternut squash, mixed beans etc.

There's loads more, I will drop back as I remember what worked!
Stay strong, you can do it!!

    Sarah xx
  • I think it's probably a good idea to plan for the next day, or next couple of days, ahead of time, and get them into your food diary. I used to resist this idea even though lots of successful people recommended it, because I liked just grazing and being more spontaneous. The spontaneous approach always led me into too much temptation, though, and I tended to eat more unhealthy stuff than healthy stuff. So now I'm starting to plan, and making sure that I include enough protein, enough fruits and vegetables, etc. Oh, I'm also going to start drinking lots of water and green tea, too.

If you have certain breakfasts/lunches/snacks that are favorites, it makes it easier to just use those as repeat meals. Then you only have to come up with different ideas for dinner.

Good luck! You're lucky that you don't have too much to lose!

  • Hi,

I've tried various ways of dieting and seem to go up and down in weight. I need to loose 20 lbs, but would really like to loose inches. I bought an home exercise program and do it every other day and walk every day for 3 miles. I managed to eat less calories yesterday and still gained 2 lbs from the day before. I think it was the resturant chicken I bought last night coming home from work.

I work 7a-7p on weekends and need something I can eat driving down the road on the way home. No wheat...any ideas?
