Gym v 30DS

Okay so, I'm not going to lie - I am HATING my new gym.
Everyone I know goes so I always feel a bit self conscious, its unbelievably busy, and I'm not overly-enamoured with the equiptment or facilities either.
This isnt excuses - I LOVED my last gym. But I've burned my bridges with them due to an ongoing dispute (I say I paid too much, they say I paid too little) and there aren't many others around.
So I was considering buying 30 Day Shred and I want to know if it's worth it? It isn't that big here in the UK as far as I know.
I like that the workouts are short - short and intense suits me.
I'm worried though because I live at home with my parents, and I don't want to make a racket jumping about doing it in my room and disturb them/the neighbours - as petty as that sounds! I'm quite embarrassed.
I really do need a kick up the a*se though - I'm slacking lately!!!

30DS is fab, definitely worth the cost.
Have you talked about this with your parents and tested the noise level etc when jumping about?0 -
You need to quit the gym. When I started losing weight I went 1.5 - 2 hrs a day, only to be treated like crap by management when I questioned something their employee did. Best move I ever made!
I work out at home alternating using a variety of Jillian Michael's DVDs and riding my bike. Ask your parents when the best time for you to workout (jump around) in your room is, so they are aware.
Since quitting the gym in June, I've lost 45+ pounds, had more free time, and used my old membership fee $$ for my monthly mani-pedis.
Good luck! You can do it!0 -
You can probably find it online, or at least view clips on YouTube to give you an idea of how 30DS is and if it would interest you.
I never made it past level 1, but that does have a good bit of jumping. I'd test out doing some jumping jacks and see if there is any problem with that.0 -
No I haven't as yet, I feel quite embarrassed! I don't imagine it'd be too bad as the walls arent thin.0

i love the 30ds and have quite alot of gillians dvds they are great!!!
If worrying about noise have you considered taking it out side, i have been doing the couch 2 5k and run (if you can call it that) up the woods, i rarely see anyone which is good as me huffing and puffing is not a pretty sight lol
or is there a time when your folks arent home but you are as its only 20 mins?
or even try taking a class like zumba alot of the schools, village halls, etc offer as well as the gyms x0 -
30DS is a great workout - if you're happy with an intense 20 minute workout then definitely go for it. I'm doing it as the 30 days in a row, 10 days on each level but I've heard other people mix and match the levels (although usually once they've been through it once already) and combine them if they want a longer workout. Also, most people combine it with extra cardio so if you're happy to go running/cycling/swimming/short session on the CV machines at the gym then that could be good too.
There's not too much jumping around - jumping jacks (star jumps to us UK-ers!) and there's only 6 minutes of jumping about style cardio in each workout anyway so unless the walls/floors are really thin I don't think you'll disturb anyone (you could always put a yoga mat down to cushion some of the noise).
It's a great workout but you might need to be careful you don't get too used to it. I haven't tried any of Jillian's other DVDs but other people on here seem to be huge fans (and the reviews on Amazon rave about them too!). I want to try Ripped in 30 but it's not out in the UK until 27th December! You could mix it up with some Davina (3 30 minute workouts) or a 30 minute Tae Bo workout as both don't have too much jumping about so also have low noise disturbance potential!
Good luck, hope you find something that suits.0 -
Hi I've jsut started using it and i work out at the gym a lot too. Love working out at home its so great so convenient don't know why i never did it before. definitely try it. its a short workout and probably not enough by itself if you are used to exercise but you can always do more than 1 level at a go. i work up a great sweat and do feel a bit sore the day after so it must be doing something!
i've decided to use a variety do this for 30 days then buy another one.
i'm using it to complement the gym as morning owrkout in the gym i feel is not enough once youa re fairly fit.0 -
I love the 30 DS, I actually prefer doing this rather than going to the gym at the moment :-) My hubby works shifts and he is usually sleeping when I do my work out in the morning and it never wakes him :-)0

I personally find that the gym works better for me. Going puts me into a 'work' mindset, whereas being at home puts me in a 'sit-my-butt-on-the-couch-and-watch-tv' mindset. If you can keep yourself motivated at home though, it's a fantastic place to work out. You cut out commute time, you can workout on your schedule and without worrying about hours or peak periods, you can wear whatever you want.
I've never done 30DS, but I have done P90X, P90X+, and Insanity. Try some of the workouts out on youtube before springing for them. Make sure you like that style of training.
Good luck!0 -
I think workout dvds work better for me. I feel self consious in the gym and saves time. I think 30ds is the best dvd I've done. I'm gonna buy ripped in 30 when its released in the uk. There is lots of jumping. I used to be embarassed by the noise when I lived at home but parents didn't mind.0

Go with 30DS! You can't beat the price for the work out and just keep the volume down. Even joining a gym-which I don't belong to- 30DS is a great very affordable program. I've been to the rec center gym and even had a personal trainer before - 30DS is a great deal-use it :flowerforyou:0

30DS is Brilliant! I go to gym at least 2 - 3 times a week and am on my second round of 30DS, and the results I've had from the dvd well exceed those that I've gotten from going to gym. I used to do classes at gym which was great, but having a baby made that impossible for me and I struggled with the right focus and exercises. Now I go at lunchtime and fit in some treadmill / spinning and walk most days with baby, and do 30DS every day and in the 6 weeks I've been doing it for, I've lost loads of cm's and about 7 pounds. I still can't believe that you can get such quick results from just 27 mins a day, but you can Her method really works!0
