Help me find options...

Tomorrow my mom is having surgery and I am traveling out of state to be with her. I will be eating out for close to 2 days if all goes well and maybe more. I know the hospital has a cafeteria in it and I know the hotel has a restaurant but I usually don't eat out unless it's McDonalds, Pizza Hut or Subway type places, so I'm not even sure what kinds of foods will be available to me. Any suggestions on choosing if they don't provide nutrition menus?

Your best bet is the hospitla because they have specific menu items for patients with dietary needs. I'd be careful with the hotel. Most don't list what or how something is prepared. Prayers for you mom & stay strong.0

You may want to pack some healthy snacks to take with you. Remember to drink water. It is only a couple days and you will probably be a little stressed/worried, so don't be too hard on yourself if you make a wrong choice or two. You can start fresh when you get back.
Hope your mom gets well soon!0 -
If you are at a restaurant, just be honest and ask nicely for what you want. Some may not want to make exceptions, but it never hurts to ask, especially if you are willing to pay and extra buck to have steamed veg instead of fries. Restaurant portions are huge, so if you just ask to have something omitted, that shouldn't be an issue either.0

Find an alternative restaurant and order a salad or go to a supermarket and buy your own food... take a tupperware box, a knife, and some cutlery. When I travel I prepare meals to take such as boiled potatoes or cous cous, a bag of salad, a tin of tuna or some roasted chicken boneless skinless thighs...means a) I know what I'm eating and how much of and b) saves me a fortune! simples!0

do you have MFP on your phone? DO your best to get an approximation of foods - don't worry if it's exact.
As far as hotels go, I shoot for veggie omelettes with egg whites and dry wheat toast, maybe fruit. Usually they have something like that. Lean burger or turkey burger without the bun. Side salads with oil and vinegar. Those kinds fo things.0 -
I think that you should go to the closes grocery stores and try to find something healthy is the dining places don't have it. If you can't make it to the store them make sure you count your calories. Don't go over board!0
