Finally got my wake-up call...

Hi, I'm definitely not new to weight loss, but I certainly have never done it because I was scared for my health.

My name is Shannon and I'm 24. In the past, I wouldn't describe myself as thin, but I was of average build and I was very active. Once I left for college 7 years ago, I started to steadily put on the weight. I have put on close to 60 pounds on a frame that needed to lose about 20 to begin with. The weight bothered me, but never to the point that I was serious about taking it off. A few diets here and there and would lose about 15 pounds, but would put it back on within a few months.

I went to the doctor earlier this week for an ear infection and they took my blood pressure - 146/78. I about fell out of the chair. My heart rate was also high at 116. "That's it" I said. I'm not playing around anymore. I bought a personal blood pressure machine and I'm keeping a food/exercise diary along with tracking my stats. I don't want to end up having a heart attack before I'm 25.

Good for you!!! Somtimes we need a wake up call. Your health is very important so make sure you make yourself a priority.
  • Thanks for all the kind words. I'm sure that I'll be able to do it this time - the next time I get a craving for my homemade pasta or feel like sitting on the couch after a day at work, I want to remember a snapshot of that digital BP reading...
