Need Support from Others on the Same Journey

Hi folks, I have been stuck at the same weight (about 15 pounds over) for about 4 years. My dieting habits are sprialing - I am emotionally addicted to sugar and it shows in my belly.
I have been trying to do it on my own and decided if doing it own my own wasn't working, then I need to change how I am going about it, before I just give up and let myself go to pot. Please please - can anyone offer wisdom? Especially from emotional eaters who have overcome, or are in the process of overcoming.

Positivity and building confidence have helped me. I've also had to change my all-or-nothing attitude. I work toward buildng confidence by setting mini goals daily for things I am struggling with that day. For example, on days I feel extra lazy I may have to push myself to do 10 minutes of exercise, where on other days where I'm feeling more motivated, I may set a goal of 20. Meeting these goals makes me feel good and feeling good about what I'm doing helps keep me on track. Maybe a goal of limiting yourself to 2 less sweet things than you normally eat per day for a couple days, or no sweets after a certain time could help. Once that's easy, move on to something harder. Eventually you'll be meeting goals that seem out of reach now. Good Luck!0

I think the best strategy is to find something that works for you. I think adaptability and experimentation are the keys to success. Some people will try to reward themselves and buy a nice piece of clothing 1 size below their current weight and use that as their goal. Others might pick up a hobby that occupies them and helps them not snack out of boredom. I would play around with these ideas and see what works for you. I took up the hobby of photography which allows me to walk outside looking for pictures (getting exercise) and spend hours on the computer editing photos (which distracts me from snacking).
Personally for me, I find momentum to be my friend. Its very hard to start a diet and very hard to continue a diet when it seemingly isn't producing results. I find, what works best for me is to focus exclusively on the plan. I try to keep an intense level of honesty with my food diary (weighing all my food) and record my intake (even when i go over during a day). I find that if I persist eventually the results will follow. Once you get that momentum its a lot easier to say "Hey, i managed to lose 10 pounds. I saw how i was able to accomplish that, i know i can do another 10 if i just keep this up".
The best thing you can do is treat every day as an opportunity. What happened yesterday doesn't matter. Don't think about making up the mistakes of today in the future. Wake up with the mission in mind to meet your goal on that day and feel proud when you do. Just try to focus on making it each day and eventually results will come.0 -
