Even at 5'8", 117 pounds is a very low BMI.

If that's you in your profile picture, you do NOT need to be 117 lbs to look the way you want to look. I would say 130 at the very least, would suit your frame, in all honesty, I think you look awesome and don't need to lose weight, but overall conditioning could give you a rocking physique. Again if that's you in your profile picture, you don't have enough body fat to lose that amount of weight, you'll be losing lean body mass. I would put you at 22% bf right now.
  • I'm 5'8" and my goal is 140. I know everyone carries their weight differently, but 117 seems like it would be REALLY low.

PS I'm 140 and 5'7, 16% body fat at the moment, if you keep your lean mass and shred the fat off, you will have strength still as well as a phenomenal figure, please don't get twiggy when your body is beautiful the way it wants to be right now, mmkay. :) Think conditioning, body recomposition, NOT weight loss when your already a healthy weight for your frame.

BMI is standard, it isn't different on different sites. And 17.8 is below healthy.

Your goal weight for 5'8" is 117? THat's pretty low unless you have a really small frame.

I'm 5'8.75" 150lbs and my ultimate goal is 140 but I'm not trying to lose currently.

BMI is standard, it isn't different on different sites. And 17.8 is below healthy.

BMI is one measurement, there are other ways of calculating your body fat percentage that include other factors beyond just height and weight (I personally believe just looking at height and weight doesn't tell the whole story and is a bad way of confirming if someone is obese or underweight). That being said, if you have to search around for the one that says it's ok, you might want to rethink your goal. I would suggest checking with a doctor to make sure it's safe, or at least be very careful as you lose weight to monitor the effects on your body.

    Thank you :) maybe I'll stop at 120 :p
  • If you're wanting to model, than they definitely have different standards. When I was 16 I was 5'10 and 140 and size 6 was a little large on me I was approached about being a model - a plus size model. Luckily I laughed it off with friends and never let it phase me.

You look amazing now. I totally don't think you need to lose weight, however, the modeling industry is it's own world with these things. Best of luck with getting there.

You can't change your frame size dear. That's your bones. Models pretty much need to be a size 2 and 5'10". That's why there aren't very many of them. Most of us just aren't the model type.
  • Wow thanks for crushing my hopes...

you can model at any size, just runway is not going to be your ideal choice for modeling since they usually start at 5'10. i'm 5'8, my smallest i was 143, but i am also a large frame so i just looked gross....i didnt like it, everyone thought i was on meth. so its possible to go even less...i know some girls who are 5'8 and like in the 130's but then again they're a different size frame and carry their weight differently. but its possible to go less, its up to you really but just do it the healthy way!!! check out your body fat percentage, not with just a bmi calculator, your going to have to go to a gym or nutriitonist or seomwehre where they measure with calipers or even the weight when you're in the water.....that way. then base how much fat you want to lose off of that...once your at you ideal, shouldnt go any less, if they still want you to lose weight, thats just unhealthy and it shouldnt go that far.

Wow thanks for crushing my hopes...
If your hopes are impossible it's better to know that going in, isn't it? You are not going to change your frame size. Seriously you are not going to make your bones get smaller. Besides if you are talking about runway modeling you are way short.

Thanks for your reply!! :) I think i'll be satisfied at 130..if not 120..Thnxx :)
