Hi! I was just wondering if anyone has sciatic nerve problems and what you do the alleviate the pain?? Mine has been acting up real bad the last 2 weeks and I have pushed through the pain, then have taken the last 3 days off of exercise and its still killing me. I worked out today but it was painful and now is killing me!!! Any ideas welcome!!! Thanks!!

you gotta see a doc or a medical expert. you can't mess about with this type of thing.
I had this so bad when I was younger, I literally couldn't move for 2.5 weeks...and if I did...I was close to tears.
my wife just had a minor bout with it...and nipped it in the bud. saw massage therapist, chiro and ART (active release technique) professional. they loosened her up, and gave her exercises and she is back exercising now.0 -
What is causing the pain?0

I recommend going to see a chiropractor. I have had back and sciatic issues ever since I had my son and suffered for years. I finally went to a chiropractor for the first time a year ago and am kicking myself for waiting so long! 10 minutes once a week and I'm back running without pain again. It's awesome. Find a good one who will support your need for exercise and you'll be right as rain.0

Ibuprofen is your friend....I have sciatic pain also. When mine is flared up I take 2-3 ibuprofen and lay off sugar which seems to get it going. Also eat lots of fruit and veggies and drink lots of water with lemon juice in it. As far as exercise ease up till it feels better. just stick to easy cardio for a while like walking. Also the suggestion on massage therapy is a good one0

you need to get the inflamation down.
take some aleeve & alternate heat & ice.
but personally, i just like the ice0 -
I agree with drog2323, get to a doc asap and don't mess around with it, My mum had it trapped when I was younger and can remember her being stuck in bed for 6 months because she didn't get help early on for it, took her about 10 sessions with a good chiro to get her back on her feet and mobile. Even still to this day she gets issues from time to time but nothing as bad as when I was younger.
She used to have to drive with a towel rolled up and placed behind her back to keep the curve in her spine to stop it getting trapped once she was out and about again, pumped full of major pain killer 90% of the time. etc etc so yeah get it check and don't leave it to late0 -
Thanks so much everyone! The chiropractor my husband used to see is having an appreciation day this week, you can get in for real cheap! Hoping to get some insurance in december so then will go to Dr, I guess. Just don't have the extra money right now for it!!0

CHIROPRACTOR!!! Last year at this time I could barely get around, no grocery shopping, no standing for more than a few minutes, impossible getting in & out of the car. The pain was sooo intense. I was going 3 times a week in the beginning because I had waited too long. He also gave me some awesome stretches that I do every day. It really is something you shouldn't mess around with. You can have permanent damage. My chiro uses a tool called an Activator. No twisting or manual adjustments.
Look up some low back stretches on the web. But find a Chiropractor!!! Hope you feel better.. I know your pain only too well.0 -
The insurance is an issue. Look up exercises specifically for sciatica. Going for help is the best option but when you can't, you can't. I hope you feel better soon.0

i feel for ya, going through this right now. i went to the chiropractor, pain reliever wasnt working. he has helped alot. he said to ice only. heat makes it more inflamed. after 2 weeks, i am feeling a ton better, good luck to ya0

I am having the same issue. Two weeks ago I began chiropractor treatments and my pain is decreasing. Traditional medicine was not helpful.0

I second the vote for Chiro/Massage with ART. Having been through 2 rounds of PT for SI joint dysfunction, chiro/ART gave me much quicker and more thorough relief from the pain/numbness/tingling. I do recommend getting an MRI first in order to rule out a serious problem if you haven't yet done so. I have also been doing some rehab exercises I found on You Tube (Top 3 Exercises for SI and Pelvic Instability and the Foundation series by Lance Armstrong's PTist). Also, I've been taking a curcumin supplement for the inflammation (refused cortisone injections). Take a week off, then gentle stretching, then progress onward - don't be in too much of a hurry! A portable TENS unit may help (used one when the pain was acute), and/or an SI belt during workouts (gives you a very serious muffin top). Good luck to you!0
