Weight loss slowing down

Hi everyone. I'm not giving up but getting frustrated. So far I've lost 14 pounds out of the 10 I"m hoping to lose. The first ten pounds came off fast but the last four has been longer and more difficult. I've got 26 more to go. What can I do to keep the momentum up. And by the way...I'm still maintaining my diet. Nothing has changed after the initial ten pound loss.

Sorry, but that's just how it works. It is perfectly normal. You will probably start to develop a new pace and maintain that, then plateau here and there, then return to your new normal pace. It's all part of the gig. Hang in there.

Oddly enough, sometimes the answer is to change your diet up. I just came off a month-long plateau, and I finally broke it by upping my calorie intake from 1800 to 2000 a day. In your case, you could try bumping up calories a bit (maybe 100 calories a day?) for a week or so to see if that helps, or you could start adding in new exercise elements or reducing calories. It seems to be the case that your body will try to find a way to maintain the status quo when you do the same thing for a while, and you have to shake things up to make it kick back into gear.

It is also worth mentioning that weight often comes off REALLY quickly at the beginning. I think this is partially attributable to a loss of water weight when someone starts a new diet because they are eating less sodium and carbohydrate overall. I know I Iost like 20 lbs. my first month. Try not to be discouraged when things slow down, because unfortunately that is just going to happen. Keep on doing what you know you need to do and throw in a few factors to keep your body from achieving homeostasis, and you should see good results with time.

    Good luck!
