Does it really make it harder to loose weight when you eat less than 1200 cal even if you aren't hungry? I try to only eat when I'm hungry. maybe a snack when I'm not.. and I usually am under the 1200 ''suggested mark''. Thoughts??

It depends....for me 1200 is close to my maintenance so I usually hover around1200 and sometimes less.

How much under? And I noticed you've been here since February, but lost 0 pounds so far. So I suggest increasing your calorie intake.

I have bounced back and forth with about 7 lbs since Feb. I get discouraged and not log on for stints of time. I am trying really hard to keep logging in this time and stick with this.
  • The number one issue I see with patients is the under estimation of calorie intake. Several clinical studies show individuals underestimate calorie intake by 25-50%. So, if you think you are consuming 1200 then you are more likely consuming 1500-1700 Kcals/day. It becomes hard when portion sizes are not accurate and this leads to over consumption.

The average female consumes 2200 Kcals/day so you are doing much better than average. The best method to ensure you only consume 1200 Kcals/day is following a meal replacement program. Studies have shown individuals consuming a meal replacement program vs. free-living (i.e., ad libitum) eating lose 50% more weight when all variables are equal. In summary, it is nearly impossible to only consume 1200 calories without packaged, portion controlled meals.

Learn how to be consistent. Calorie counting is essential to weight loss because weight loss, at its core, is eating less than you burn (TDEE). Pulling disappearing acts for stints of time isn't going to help. And when you do log, how MUCH under are you?

Thanks. I do need to be more consistant. I appriciate your honesty. Not to much under .. anywhere from 200 - 400 cal.
