Question for runners

I recently completed couch to 5k. I've been increasing my distance and intensity and my hands get super bloated and numb after my run.

Am I doing something wrong? I usually drink a bottle of water during so I'm wondering if that is causing it. It was so bad yesterday that I think I'm going to have to take my rings off next time.

Like I said I've never ran before so I'm totally clueless.

Are you running on the dreadmill or outside?

I'm a morning runner, a wise person once told me "if you are waiting to the morning of your run to hydrate, you've waited too long."

Try not drinking (during) and see what happens.

I've seen this before... I also researched it because it seemed so crazy! Basically its due to all the blood flow to your hands while you are exercising. A remedy to "help" it is to lift your hands above your heart during a good portion of your exercise to help alleviate it. Sorry I don't have better info, I am not exactly a runner!

I get this when I run long distances and drop my hands. When I fell my fingers start to swell, I hold my hands up and spread my fingers and the blood drains back out.

I'd also suggest double checking your form. When you run your arms should be bent slightly more than 90 degrees but not so far that you pinch off the blood at the elbow. Keep your arms and shoulders relaxed, swinging forward and back and not across your body.

    Hope that helps!

I dont drink while I am running anymore for just this reason. If I am running in the morning, I will have about 8oz before I head out and rehydrate when I get back, especially where I am usually only out for an hour or so.
