Hi. This isnt a diet question but I am almost 37 and haven't had a period in 2 months. I am not pregnant. I have always been very regular. I called doctor and he said no big deal, don't worry. Has anyone else had this happen? Oh and it aint cause I exercise too much.LOL

Yes! I am 41 and have been off and on experiencing perimenopause for several years. I wouldn't worry, but if the hotflashes get too intense, I use soy and black cohosh capsules. :) Good luck!
  • My mother started menopause at 37 and was completely through it at 39. It is certainly not out of the realm of possibility!

My mum started with 37 and was all done at the age of 45... so no, you're not too young for menopause, it CAN start that early.

No, women are starting younger and younger now, just like girls and their periods are starting sooner and sooner, makes sense we perimenopause would start earlier. I had NEVER missed a period, at when I did 12 yrs after my youngest was born I was in shock, turned out, just perimenopause. I actually noticed my first symptoms at 35, and being 40, they are the worse I have had now. eating right, and working out, and flaxseed has helped a lot.

It's not super common, but it does happen. Statistically the later you reached menarche, the earlier you will hit menopause. (That's never seemed fair, lol.) How old were you when you started?

Also, perimenopause can be brought on by trauma. I had a friend who was completely done with menopause before she hit 40. She was in a major car accident in her mid-30s and the trauma to her body had lasting effects.

Could be stress. I have missed in the past because of stress.

Well, i my periods stopped in high school cause i starved myself, is this a reason? if not and your doctor isnt conserned yet, then either get a second opinion if you are still bothered by it.
  • I'm 36 and have been dealing with it for 2 years now. Everybody has their own biological timetable for when and how long, your's is just just on the earlier side.

Are you on birth control pills? Depo and pills can cause lightening of the periods. Same thing happened when I was your age. I was 50 when I completed menopause.
  • I don't think you are too young. Perimenopause can last for 10-15 years from what I"ve heard!

A friend of mine just turned 40 and has been getting hot flashes for a couple of years, so yes, its very possible!

Do you know when your mom started her change? I guess your mom's history is a VERY good indicator to whether you will begin it early (that's what my doctor told me, but my mom had a hysterectomy, so not sure when to expect it myself).

I'm 41, and ready to be done with this monthly nonsense...so I say 'bring it on!
  • I hate the word perimenopause or premenopause! I believe it's a good word for Dr's to throw around when they have no clue what is going on with your body. I had a child at 35 and they said that "threw" me into premenopause. Later I found out my periods were irregular due to nursing. They continued to stay that way, I ended up seeing a specialist and in no way shape or form am I in peri or premenopause. As we get older our bodies change but I would still recommend seeing an OB. They say women can start as early as late 30's but make sure it isn't something else going on with you. Good luck! :flowerforyou:

So much in gynecology is just guessing. One doctor diagnosed me as having endometriosis because of my symptoms, but another doctor won't commit to that diagnosis unless I let him do a laproscopy.
  • I am definately not starving myself. I have been on YAZ for years and never had a problem.
  • I have had endometriosis and thats why I am still on pill.

I am 24 and going through menapause.
  • I am the same. I'm 36 and apparently have been going through perimenopause for a couple of years now. And my doc said it can last for 10-15 years, which I believe someone else stated already. I also take the pill and since my second child was born (she'll be 3 in Dec.) I've had really light and short periods. I've never skipped a month though and not been pregnant.
  • my mom had a hyterectomy at age 27 after my sister was born. SO can't tell if its genetic.

Definitely not too young for premenopause. I am 45 and definitely in premenopause. And I'm sure that I began it when I was in my late 30s. Been battling premenopause symptoms off and on for years. I can say that exercise and diet helps in a big way. Some doctors tell me that I'm too young. But they are idiots. Seems it depends upon who you ask.

Here's a list of symptoms, http://www.project-aware.org/Experience/symptoms.shtml You can check for other possible symptoms. It also tells you other things it could be, but since you saw a doc, I assume those have been ruled out.

I'd still get checked. Yes you can start perimenopause early. I've had some symptoms for years but never have had a missed period yet.

You totally depressed me, I have alot of those symptoms. You evil woman you..lol
  • I am 44 yrs of age, since January of this year my periods have been a little out of wack...one month it lasted 13 days, then I didn't have another one for 49 days, but it was a normal one, then I had a very short one (normally mine are 7 days). October came and I had my period which lasted 5 days, then nothing for about a week, but now spotting for the last 2 weeks almost but more than spotting when I work out, run, and aerobics....

Other than that I have no other symptoms but wonder if I am also going through premenapause.

for me, the night sweats were the worst! i'd wake up and have to change the change my pajamas and the sheets 2-3 times a night. not a fun timeframe in my life. i was completely through menopause at the age of 27. i am now 33 and have to take hormone replacement therapy. it is possible. have your ob do a blood panel for a month to track your hormones. it may be a simple fix of needing more estrogen or progesterone, or switching from yaz to a different birth control.

I went through menopause early - completely stopped periods at 40. There is a blood test that can be taken to see. However, you must be off of all birth control, for 6 months - I think.

Haha, sorry! It is kinda depressing, the thing that gets me through it is knowing sometime within the next 5 to ten years I will be done with these monthly curses, which aren't so monthly anymore.

Excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall.....hard. I'm in perimenopause and I'm hating it. I've been in it for a few years now and am depressed that there may be several more to go. Ugh!

My periods went wacky after my fourth child and the tubal ligation I had two months later when was 30. I had night sweats and heavy periods, then missed periods. finally it all leveled off until I was about 47 I had a horrible stressful job and my periods got heavy and LOOONg again. Dr. put me on meds to re-boot my cycle twice. I finally finished at 52. I'd see an OB-Gyn to be sure.

I have to be honest, I have never looked into the symptoms of hypothyroidism.(Though years ago my daughter was tested, and then not too long ago my son was tested for hyperthyroidism. )I guess because I knew weight gain was a symptom and since I have been able to lose weight, thought it's been very hard this last year, I just didn't consider it. But I thought i would look today, and was shocked at how many symptoms are the same as perimenopause. No wonder women are always saying to have the thyroid ruled out. http://www.endocrineweb.com/conditions/thyroid/hypothyroidism-too-little-thyroid-hormone . Every single one of these symptoms I have, and thought it was perimenopause. I'm still inclined to believe it's Perimenopause because of other issues I have, but definitely will be talking with a doctor in the future, cause I suppose it could be both. That's just difficult to do without insurance, and finances being where they are. I will have to wait for taxes.
