Do fat people sweat more?

So I've been doing MFP for about 2 months now and have lost 20 lbs. (go me). Today I was working on the treadmill and I noticed that I don't sweat nearly as much as I did when I first started. So the question is, do fat people sweat more, naturally? Or is it a genetic thing?

I'm not sure of the answer but I know that I sweat A TON. Always have.

Nope. Different people sweat different amounts. If you are a person who sweats a lot, you will sweat a lot as a fat version of you, and a thin version of you. Just different ways our bodies work.
  • dont know the answer but for me:ohwell: ---I sweat more now than I ever have working out.....:noway:

I sweat more now than I did before while exercising, but it's probably because I am working out a lot harder. When not working out I sweat a lot less. Your body isn't working as hard doing your everyday routine. Plus there's less insulation.

I sweat a lot when I work out, but I do notice I don't sweat on a normal basis as mauch as I used to, The heat doesn't bother me like it used to either! I have lost about 57 pounds so far!

You may have sweat more previously because you were exerting far more effort for the same job than you are now? :)

Imagine a fit person running a mile. How much would they sweat?
Imagine an overweight person running a mile. How much would they sweat?

As you become fitter, your body works less to do the same work. You are becoming more efficient as a person!

I think certain people sweat more than others. I used to think I sweated more because I was fat, but I sweat just as much now that I am fit, and I notice that my Zumba instructor is always just as drenched as I am after class while others who have worked just as hard as we have are barely even a little sweaty.

I sweat like a sinner in church when I was overweight. I was one of those people that always had to have a fan on me, sleeping in shorts and tank tops... always hot and sticky. Now that I'm more fit, I still sweat, but never so much as when I do Insanity! lol Plus, since I've lost all my "insulation", I'm always cold, so that helps me not sweat so much. :)

I've slipped from my own puddle of sweat during RIPPED class. But everyone is different. You may not be sweating as much because you are fitter now than you were then so the same exercise isn't giving you as much of a challenge.

I don't think fat people sweat more. I think that is mostly a stereotype.

I think it has more to do with genetics and hormones than anything else.

I sweat more easily before. I'd get sweaty putting away the laundry or walking the dog.

Now, I'm drenched when I leave the gym or finish a run, but it takes a lot to get me there.

Sweat is just a means for your body to cool down, actually I remember reading somewhere that a fit person might sweat more since they would be more equipped to work longer.

I thought so, but I think it's an individual thing. I'm in better shape (as far as aerobic endurance goes) than a lot of my friends, but I still sweat profusely.

I think this is true. Also, Water levels have a LOT to do with it. When I am drinking enough water, I will sweat like crazy, but when I am dehydrated, not nearly as much.

Sweat is the body's air conditioner. When it comes down to exercising, I believe the sweat level depends on how intense the person is working out.

I leave puddles behind when I go to the gym. I was in pretty good shape when I was in the army back in the day. When I did PT the sweat line around my collar reached my knees.
  • If I am on the bike it's a guarantee that my shirt will be absolutely soaked by the end. Sweat literally drips off my chin and on my arms - and today I felt like I could *feel* the new drops come out of my pores. Or maybe I was just that in-tune with my body today.... o.O

Not to be gross (ok well maybe it is anyway) - but I love to see the sweat bead up on my arms when biking. Overall love sweating when I work out. ;)

Sweating is genetic. I sweat little compared to many I've seen in the gym. And I'm no slouch!!! Even when I instruct kickboxing full bore, my shirts get a little damp and that's it.
  • I sweat more resting at 350 then I do now at 240.

I sweat more working hard at 240 then I did working hard at 350.

When I workout I am drenched!!

When I was bigger I would sweat just sitting around, now I don't sweat doing everyday things, but boy do I pump it out when I exercise!!

Nothing like holding plank and having the sweat drip off your nose lol
