Hi all!

Just curious how accurate MyFitnessPal's goal of 25g per day of sugar was. Somehow i go over EVERY singly day! Not just a little over, im talking 2-3x that amount. I am under on fat, carbs, right there at protein, a little over on fiber. But the sugar is just out of control!!

Does anyone have any tips for cutting down on sugar? (im vegetarian)

This is what i have eaten so far today and im already 3 grams over!

Breakfast- 315 Cals
*MorningStar Farms Breakfast sandwich: egg, cheese, fake sausage
*G2 Gatorade

Lunch-480 Cals
Pb&J: Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter, Wheat Bread, Sugar free strawberry preserves
Original Baked lays : 15 crisps

Snack-90 Cals
Peanut butter Fiber One bar
Emergen-c
Krill oil

I usually eat Fage honey greek yogurt or the breakfast sandwich in the morning. And for dinner i usually eat vegetarian frito pie, spaghetti and veggie crumbles, corn and rice, etc.

I just dont understand how im going over consistently and what i should be changing to remedy this. Any advice is appreciated.

I tend to go over on my sugar intake too, honestly if I am below 60 g then I'm happy. I think the MFP goal is a little low.
  • Eliminating sugar is *THE* hardest thing I have ever tried to do. I'm attempting to keep it below 15g/day and it is really a challenge that I only make 3-4 times a week. Here's what you can try:

Switch to plain greek yogurt, that's usually 7g sugar for 6 ounces.

It's really hard, but switch out your strawberry preserves with almond butter - with no sugar added.

Read your labels. Eat less processed food.

Also, I just read something recently that said artificial sweeteners, like those in the G2 or Vitamin Water Zero drinks will make you crave sugar and/or eat more. So you might want to switch that out for Perrier Lime or Lemon or other Sparkling water with some essence in it that isn't sugared at all or has calories.

    Good luck!

I agree, I find it nearly impossible to stay under my MFP sugar intake reccomendation. What has helped me is cutting out all artificial sweetners (they do make me crave more sugar) and I've been trying to limit my sugar intake to 9 grams and under per meal.

    Hope this helps :-)
