Northfaces.....
Are you paying all the money(they go up to 300 something bucks) for the brand name or it truthfully keeps you warmer than other coats?

I got one pretty cheap years ago at Campmor and got a lot of use out of it. It's big on me now though.0

I got one before going to Ireland in the spring - it was outlet priced, so maybe 100 and well worth it. I'm absolutely in love with how lightweight and squishable it is, yet warm enough for a Wisconsin winter. I can squish it up into my purse when I'm out. No joke.0

I love my Northfaces. I live in Chicago and we have terrible winters. I've never had an issue with them. There are outlets you can go to to buy them.0
-
Worth an outlet/discount/internet price, but I have a really hard time spending $300 on a piece of seasonal outerwear.0
-
I have the jacket and it has kept me warm through 5 feet of snow but maybe any other fleece jacket would do the same??0
-
I bought a waterproof lined jacket just like the North Face ones at Costco for $28... I like it just as well as my old North Face one, and it keeps me just as warm.0

It obviously gets extremely cold here... I have owned very expensive coats, some worth it, some not. If I'm going for a walk, playing with my son outside, sledding, snowshoeing, etc, I will say my Northface is amazing. I hated the Columbia I owned before this in comparison. It was bulky and not nearly as warm.
On work days when I have a short walk, I opt for a more fashionable wool. I do actually find NF to be horribly unattractive *LOL*0 -
We just bought Columbia outerwear for our family. I got a new hooded fleece, the boys got waterproof jackets with fleece liners, and the hubs got a waterproof rain jacket. Going to get the coordinating pants next.0
-
Personally, I think they rock and coats can last for many seasons. I'm a Columbia junky, myself, but I like Northface too.
I also may have this condition where I spend too much money on clothes...0 -
I have a Northface Parka as well as a Rab Shell. Both were fairly expensive (although I did get reductions on both.)
Are they worth it? Yes, every penny. On a technical level they are both superb. Completely waterproof (as opposed to water resistant) windproof, good breathability and I get a lot of wear out of them.
Am I actually going to try an ascent of the north face of Everest wearing it? Probably not. The south face on the other hand...0 -

I could go somewhere with this, but I stand to remain completely quiet and just smile.0 -
Great gear...but you can well with less0

I wear a fur coat I bought in Belarus. It might not fit me this winter, though. Might be too big now
Never had any "brand name" winter coat.0 -

I have the exact same problem, it is so hard not to buy a ton of clothes that would fit me now so that I have money for clothes when I'm done.0 -
I get made fun of because I own a ridiculous amount of Northface jackets.0
-
I'm thinking about getting a triclimate jacket from them.0

I wear Mountain Hardwear. Wouldn't second guess spending my cash on their gear.
Though I use mine for playing rougher than most folks.
If you are simply looking for warmth, chances are you are overpaying. If you are looking for performance wear; Northface, Mountain Hardwear, Arc'Tyrex , Eddie Bauer, etc, are what you need to be comparing depending on your sport.
On that note however, there is absolutely no need to pay retail for any of those brands. Even Arc'Tyrex and Mountain Hardwear can be had from outlets or as discounted last years models.
Just my 2 cents0 -

Pah! Send them my way and I will kick their *kitten* for you.
Having said that you might want to consider Montane or Arc'teryx as alternatives. For variety you know...0 -
I have a Northface Glacier jacket that I bought 19 years ago and it has been exclusively used at the barn for the last 8 or so - so I think that they absolutely take a beating and absolutely worth the price. My Mountain Hardwear jacket is about the same age and is definitely more threadbare.0

i love Northface... great quality and style. should last for years!0

They are just jealous they don't own every color.0 -
Totally worth the money. I have a few different weights and love every one of them... You can find cheap ones at ****'s Sporting Goods come springtime...0

^^^^^^^The store rhymes will "Vick's"... ^^^^^^^^^
Curse you MFP censoring!!!!!0 -
This is so ironic and semi-wierd at the same time but my ex-bf is in Washington and he asked me early whats the price at Target for that in California...I was like what the heck is Northface??? lol and then...the conversation when down hill... I am glad he transferred to Washington!0

Pffft...North Face? Hardly. I spring for Canada Goose. That stuff is rated to insanely low temps. I typically stick with the more fashionable, 2 season styles though.
Also, it's excellent quality and is NOT made by underpaid women in 3rd world countries.0 -
I got my kids theirs at a Consignment shop, paid about 60.00 for both. My 11 year old is much more interested in the name brand, the 7 year old doesn't really care.
I think it's ridiculous to pay that kind of money for something that they grow out of so quickly. My son grew out of pants and shoes in less then a month this summer!0 -
BEST COAT EVER.
I'm from Minnesota, and ever since I got mine, I think I've wore my winter coat twice?
Worth the money, plus it's attractive! Mine is two years old (bought it in 09) and it is still great. I want a new one though!0
