Loose Tooth

My mother has a very loose front tooth which isn't far from falling out. She is seeing a specialist in 2 weeks but has been told that she should avoid it falling out if she can. Not to mention she REALLY doesn't want to be left with one front tooth!

What are some soft foods she'd be able to eat in the mean time?

TIA!

  • Jello, Pudding, Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, Frozen Yogurt, Soft Serve Ice Cream, Refried Beans,

That's all I can think of at the moment....
  • Apple sauce is good, protein shakes, meal replacement shakes like boost. Hope that helps and wish her luck. Is she getting an implant?

    Soup.
  • Soup is good, too. Her regular dentist should be able to splint the loose tooth to the teeth next to it temporarily for the next 2 weeks for a little added stability.

They used a tooth cement (similar to the stuff used in fillings) to "glue" her tooth to the one next to it, but it dissolved within a couple of days.

Thanks for your suggestions so far!!

    Corn on the cob.
  • If you've got a blender, you can make adult "baby food." Just dump anything in that doesn't have bones or cartilage, add a little water and zoom. Dinner smoothies...I did this when my hubby had to get dentures and it worked just fine.

scrambled eggs are a good one. She should be able to eat most anything if it's a front tooth and she cuts things up. We really only use our front teeth for "incising" or biting into things. Splinting the two teeth together is definitely an option, but at an additional cost, I'm sure. Not sure if she wants to put more money into a tooth that is going to be lost, but would give some better stability.
  • Beans, rice, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, steamed yams, tuna -- protein shakes for sure. Oatmeal for breakfast. TJ's has a couple of good low sodium soups. I would have her stay with things that have nutritional value if she can't eat much else. Apple sauce and ice cream might be okay for a little treat, but not so good in providing nutrition and sustaining blood sugar levels.

No it's her natural adult front tooth.

Is there anything else her dentist can do until she sees the specialist, maybe they have another type of temporary cement or maybe they could use some acrylic filling material as a temp repair (I used to work for a dentist)? Will the specialist consider seeing her sooner due to the circumstances? Two weeks is such a long time. Do you know why her tooth is so loose?

The tooth is loose because of a genetic gum disease (I guess I have that to look forward to). Her Dentist says there is nothing else he can do. She has been waiting on this specialist since March.

March?!? Are you kidding me??? Thats terrible! Is she going to see a periodontist? Since you know its genetic, keep up on good oral hygiene for yourself, it will certainly help.

Yeah it's a periodontist. She can't afford private health care so there's ALWAYS long waits for specialists in any field. The consultation alone will still cost more than $200... stupid expensive health care! haha
