Appreciating the Small Changes

Options
I first posted this as a blog and I think it got lost in space LOL. So I figured I could motivate some folks with this quick read. I hope you enjoy and get motivated.

I started this life change journey due to a gastrointestinal issue. It took me out of work for about two weeks and I'd been feeling awful for months. This was about a year and forty pounds ago. Needless to say, after countless doctor and specialist visits, I was still feeling pretty awful. This is when my medical doctor told me that I needed to make serious changes to my diet and I needed to exercise. I alerted one of my good friends and she recommended joining MFP. I have to admit that it changed my life.

I lost 13 pounds so far (since June) and the people on here are great and very supportive. I have to admit that I feel better than I've ever felt before. Unfortunately, about a month ago I fell into a slump. I plateaued and I felt that the weight was not coming off fast enough. When I looked in the mirror, I saw the same 180something pounds and the same flab. I mean, I made the mistake of weighing in everyday, taking pictures of myself every week, and not to mention, I was wearing out my measuring tape.

Finally, my 13 year old daughter told me to stop worrying and take a look at the pictures from a few summers ago. Boy was I surprised to see the difference. I noticed that my face is slimmer, my stomach is less flabby, my arms are more toned, and the one huge difference is I can actually see my collar bone and my shoulders are sexy. This had made my month!

I say all of that to say this, whenever you are down on yourself just take a look at the small changes. This way you will learn to appreciate all the hard work that you're doing, and you will realize that you are not exercising and eating right in vain.

I am glad to have read this. I have been working out consistently for the past 3 weeks and eating very health and I have only lost a total of 8lbs overall. I feel that I put so much into my workout that I should see the pounds melting off and when I don't I become a little discouraged but then I think about how I feel when I workout and it is completely different when I don't. Whenever I choose to eat healthy instead of fast foods I become more energetic and that alone motivates me to continue this path and appreciate those small changes I didn't feel before.

Thank you for your post. Yes, it is the small things we need to learn to appreciate. I am at the point now where when I look in the mirror I at least don't gasp in horror and run the other way. It was encouraging to read your reminder.

Thanks, and I agree. All this hard work will pay off, it's not just about the number on the scale, but the change in our health from what we eat. :)
