Looking at some people's food diarys I have noticed that there are a lot of people that eat 0 fruits and vegetables through the day... I know for me I like adding those to my diet because they are very few calories and they are loaded with nutrients that make me feel better. They have fiber and water and they keep you from feeling hugry. Those 100 calorie packs and other empty calorie pre-packaged foods are not satisfying nor are they nutrient rich. They are also loaded with salt and sugar and they will cause you to crave more salt and sugar later... I'm not trying to be preachy or anything, and I'm not trying to cause any trouble but for 100 calories I would much rather have a big fat juicy apple than a pinch of some processed chip or cookie thingy... Not a sermon, just a thought...

For some it's not about being fit or healthy. It's just about getting smaller. I just don't know how anyone can eat like that on a long term basis. But I guess they will figure that out eventually.

Ya, don't get me wrong... It's very hard to cut out those bad things at first because you have to get over the physical addiction but once you do it's a lot easier. Now I taste the chemicals in those processed foods...

I'm with you! Once I realized how MUCH I could have of the fruits and veggies versus the other stuff, my eyes were opened. Now I try to have at least a piece of fruit or two every day and I add fresh spinach to almost everything I can...sandwiches, smoothies, salads, omelets. You are right too, I have felt sooo much better just by that little change! I try really hard to keep up with the whole "colors of hte rainbow" thing too. You know, eat something from every color of the rainbow each day. Gives you variety and you KNOW you are eating healthy!

I also agree with the comment that some people are not here for health but for a smaller number on the scale. You can lose weight eating(or not eating) whatever you want but how you get there will determine how long it stays off and what your long term health is going to be!

There are lots of days where I grab a piece of fruit (or 10) and not log it into the diary. Usually I am running out the door and dont think about it.

IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO TRANSITION FROM THE 100 CAL PACS TO FRUITS AND VEGGIES. ONCE I DID I WAS A GONER FOR NUTRIENT RICH FOODS. MY NAME IS SARAH, AND I'M A FRUIT/VEGGIE-AHOLIC.
IT TOOK TIME BUT I'M SO GLAD I'M HERE. THE WEIGHT FELL OFF FASTER AND MY HEALTH OVERALL JUST GOT SO MUCH BETTER. TO EACH THEIR OWN THOUGH I WISH EVERYONE WOULD JUST TRY TO EAT HEALTHIER FOR A WEEK AND NOTE THE DIFFERENCES SO THEY CAN HAVE THAT AS PROOF :)

I just dont care for them much...I'll eat an apple once in awhile, I eat a sweet potato almost everyday....that's basically it. I eat what I want and I want meats and fats.

This made me grab the apple sitting in my purse. Sometimes all I need is a reminder!

Its possible that people just don't log all their fruits and vegetables. I usually don't bother adding in my 1/2 cup of broccoli and handful of green beans for dinner or that half an orange I ate while I waited for my breakfast to cook, etc. They don't have many calories, and I don't use a food scale so mostly I'd just be guessing at how many calories they were anyway. It's more trouble than it's worth for me to add them, so even though they're not in my dairy (making it look like I eat only cabs and fats..) I get plenty of fruits and veggies. I suspect there might be a lot of others in the same boat.

I'm trying to add in more fruits and veggies... but it's tricky, especially on days when I leave for work at 8AM, and then go straight to class at 5:15PM, and don't get home until 8:30 that night... sometimes packaged things are just easier to grab and go.

I don't do the 100 calorie packs, because I think they're overpriced, and money is tight... but I definitely need more fruits and veggies anyway!! (Although, unsweetened applesauce is my best friend... yum!)

I also have a hard time buying stuff at the right "time" so that it doesn't go bad... but yet buying enough that I don't run out... lol! Frozen is great but some things are just better fresh! My mom says I'll get better at it the more I get used to shopping and cooking... I'm a young newlywed and have a lot of learning to do still

I am transitioning to eating better, but trying to do it gradually so it is sustainable. We've been without power all week and eating too much junk - right now I would love a big plate of veggies!!

Does sound a little preachy but anyway. I do agree to some point but you can't just generalise. They may not log, might just not want to eat fruit or veg. Not everyone will eat how you or I do.

I count the calories of my fruits and veggies because they add up. I used to do WW and when fruit and veggies became "free" I stopped losing weight.

To keep my produce from going bad, I try to buy only what I need. I pretty much know what I am going to eat for each meal and I shop accordingly. This has significantly cut my grocery bill and I don't waste food anymore... That just about kills me when I waste money and stuff goes bad.

    Does this count? 5140_042010_rainbow_cake_l.jpg

Because I could handle that.

I try to eat 1 piece of fruit and at least a side salad a day, but I know I should eat more. I just don't enjoy eating a lot of the fruits and veggies. I drink OJ but I hate eating an actual orange. I love applesauce, can't eat an apple. Hate uncooked carrots but force myself to eat them occasionally. Salads are tough to transport to work for me. I take a multi-vitamin and try to add veggies to dinner and do the best I can.

I am the SAME way... with you 100%!! I hate eating actual fruits for some reason... and I hate raw carrots (cooked they are much better, though!!)... and salads are definitely a pain to bring to work... lol!!

Many people just don't log their veggies. No one ever got fat eating an entire head of broccoli or cauliflower or a pound of green beans. And smaller amounts of veggies may not be worth the time it takes to log them.
