Farewell Facebook?

Today is supposed to be one of the greatest days in cyberwar history. The hacker group Anonymous has said that today it will begin an attack against Facebook as well as Fox News. Now, in the past Anonymous has been largely successful. Just last week Anonymous successfully hacked into the computers of nearly 200 patrons of child pornography websites, exposing their IP addresses and computer histories and passing them along to international authorities, but what do you think will happen today through this weekend? Do you think they will successfully cripple Fox and Facebook? Do you support Anonymous' endeavours?

I think it's time for Facebook to die anyway. So, sure. Why not? XD0

Facebook has it's positives and negatives. I like to use it to promote health and fitness and keep in touch with my family.
Stupid people post stuff that can be used against them.
Do I think it should go away...hell no. I love reading what stupid people post. Right McKay....you love reading that **** too. It cracks us up. ROFLMAO...0 -

Agreed. I permanently deleted my Facebook a little over a month ago. It was very freeing to be rid of that particular addiction.0 -

NOOOOOOOOO!!!
If they get rid of Facebook how am I supposed to keep touch with my friends in America and Chile?! How am I supposed to stalk my crush?! :brokenheart:0 -
Certain things anonymous do I think are cool but attacking facebook doesn't seem worthy to me. This might be because for me facebook is a way to keep in touch with people now I've moved away from home for university and also the international friends I made working at a summer camp. It has way more positives than negatives and plus I can't survive not being able to read people's ridiculous updates on life =P0

Regardless of ones views of these sites, hacking them to bring them down is wrong. It is an attack against free speech, and regardless of what good this group may have done hacking child pornography websites, this sort of action is not a good thing. I have no idea if they will be successful, but I'm hoping they are not and that they get appropriately dealt with legally if they do this. Just because it is a website doesn't make this any better than throwing rocks through the window of a business you don't like.0 -

Sometimes throwing a rock through your neighbours window is the only way to make them pay attention. These types of acts are at times necessary though that necessity often isn't realised until history's judgement has been made. That said it is often difficult to determine in the present if such acts are beneficial. I'll reserve judgement until after the results are in, but I will say that I can see the possible benefits of waking certain people up, and making certain organisations question their role in the world.0 -
I just read that Anonymous won't be attacking Facebook and that that rumour was started by a rogue member of the group. lol Figures. Oh well. I wonder if they'll still go after Fox. We'll see. :P0

I can only hope that Facebook will topple one way or another....
I'd "like" that!0 -

I'd "like" that!
Nobody is forcing you to use it <.<
I only got a facebook less than a year ago, but I love it now because i got back in touch with my friends from the other countries i used to live in.
Most importantly, it makes stalking a bit simpler. I was finally able to throw out my garbage can costume.0 -
Yay! At last Nosebook takes a nosedive. I deleted my facebook account 6 months ago and it was liberating, couldnt believe the amount of wasted time I spent reading ridiculous hourly posts from attention seekers. I now stay in touch with 'real' friends and family through old fashioned e-mail and skype. :laugh:0

A long as they leave my tumblr alone! And I like Google + better, but everyone's still about facebook that I know =(0

Quite correct, and I don't use it.
I'd be pretty happy to see it disappear though!0 -
Also, you know Google is now keeping a record of everything you do on facebook from chats to private messages, to apps you play with to your pics?
nothing is sacred.0 -

Obviously you aren't doing anything too bad on Facebook then~Google cannot literally keep track of everything though.
If you want to do something illegal, there are plenty of fronts out there on the web.0 -

There are a few interesting issues going on in our world right now: Occupy ______, Leave your Bank day (today), the EU stuff, natural disasters, the End of Afghanistan (???), now the End of Facebook??!?!?!??! If it does happen people will be forced to actually COMMUNICATE and THINK FOR THEMSELVES! (Some people going to go crazy having to think about things in their realities rather then fill their brains with trash from facebook.)0
-
I really don't understand why people who don't use facebook anyway want it gone. Why does it matter if it's there and others use it? For me it's been great. It enables me to get back in touch with old school friends who I hadn't seen for over 10 years, invite them to my wedding and now we are all good friends again. Also, I like to play some of the games on FB, and if it stops me from stuffing my face then it's alright by me!0

Could you please explain how communicating through facebook is not a form of communication, as well as how it causes people to not think for themselves?
I would actually argue that people are more less prone to allow others to control them through cyber-forms of communication, rather than in real life.
As far as communication goes, it is no different than MFP or even the phone in a lot of ways.0 -
Personally would hate to see facebook go away. I don't use it muc right now, but when I was deployed I could see LOADs of pics of my kids and keep in touch with all of my family since I couldnt exactly get on the phone whenever I needed...0

The mexican mafia has kidnapped one of the members of that group. I doubt they will go through with it0

I don't use FB myself and don't understand why people would want it gone. Just because you don't do something, you want it to be taken from other people? Weird. FB can actually be used as a powerful tool.0 -
I'm not a huge fan of Facebook anymore (had my addictive moments). It's nice to keep in touch with people from high school and the various places I've lived/deployed to (that would've been tough to track down in many cases), but I rarely do much with it myself. It always seems like the same 10 people post the same stuff, and that gets a little boring.
It is a good de-stresser every so often though. Better than taking up smoking, right?0 -

it's not just Google... Facebook itself has a complete archive of everything you've ever posted since you joined.. things you've posted on other people's walls and every single chat you've had with one of your friends. Google can't literally keep track of everything.. but Facebook does. you can download your own archive copy.0 -
he he I wish I could comment... :drinker:0
