Ok so i have completed week 2 Hooray!
I am 177 and my goal is 140lb, aiming for 1.5-2lb a week loss.
Since starting this 2 weeks ago i have been sticking to my calorie count of 1200 per day. I am extremely strict and log everything and i weigh out everything i eat on digital scales so portion size is not a problem. I don't drink alcohol and drink a staggering 3-4litres of water a day (i have an addiction, don't ask).
This week i have exercised at least ten hours and similar the week before. My exercise this week has included 4hours brisk walking, 90min swimming with heart rate around 145-150, 1hour body combat, 2hours body balance, 1hour body attack and 45min ballet class. I wear a polar heart rate monitor and log my calories according to that. I eat back on average half my exercise calories.
I feel like i have worked my *kitten* off for the last two weeks and have been hungry the whole time. Yet after 2weeks, no change on the scales and no inch loss from anywhere.
I am on 35mg prednisolone and have been on steroids for three months. They do increase appetite but i have been so careful to stick to my allowance.
I have been really ill recently and piled on the weight with the steroids and its miserable being so fat.i know its only been two weeks but is so disheartening

if ur exercising alot make sure ur eating at least some of those calories back. body needs fuel. the 1200 mfp suggests is far to low in my oppionion x0

I don't know how medicines interact with the program, but I had a hard time moving until I changed my carb ratio. The default must have been too high for my body. I dropped it 10-20% and it helped.
1200 is the minimum to keep your metabolism going, I also wonder if that's too low. Switch to 1lb per week so you gain a few more calories. You'll probably see some movement. Your body may be in "starvation" mode.0 -
I have had 2 people close to me take prednisone for injuries or chronic pain. They found that if they ate any sugar while on the meds, they got very bloated and gained quite a bit of weight. Perhaps that could be something to watch out for. Good luck to you!0

Take measurements. You may be losing mass and not lbs. Remember also that muscle weighs more than fat. Other than that what the above ladies said. Best of luck on your continued journey!0

Also take a look at your sodium intake. If you're staying under your calories but your sodium is still way too high, you may be retaining water from that, and the steroids aren't going to help anything as far as retention goes. If you're drinking enough water, though, sodium may not be an issue for you. I'd check with your doctor about the meds that you're on.
And one thing I have to keep reminding myself of when these things happen: You didn't gain the weight overnight; you're not going to lose it overnight. These things take time if you want to see permanent results.0 -
The steriods will play havoc! My son was on them for 6 months. One thing the doctor told us (and worked for my son) is to be very careful with sodium. Which for us meant no canned anything (soup/veggies whatever).
As for the rest-do what you know is right. The weight will come off eventually, but it will be slower because of the medications. And once you are off them, you will have established good, healthy habits.
Good luck!0 -
Have faith it will come off and you will see the results
it didnt go on in two weeks and it will take time for the results to show
but when they do you will maybe have weeks that you have a big loss and
others that you dont lose at all its all part of the journey but if you stick
with it you will reep the rewards
good luck on your journey

make sure you are eating between 1200 and 1500 NET, after accounting for exercise. when I exercise i sometimes eat 2000-2500 calories in a day. the meds may also be impacting it... it may be slower than you want but it will come off...0

Judging from your post you should be losing tons of weight.
Maybe try eating more becouse 1200 calories is extremely low for 177lbs person, and eat healthy ofc.
Other then that maybe your medicines have something to do with it.0 -
Without being able to see your food diary it is difficult to comment. Sometimes it takes a while for the weight loss to start. It may be the medications you are on as well.0

i am on the same steroids, have been for 6 years, i am finding it difficult to loose weight,
at the moment i'm trying upping my protein and reducing my carbs, i think it may be working.0 -
I've been on Prednisone MANY times in my life, and I will tell you that, in my experience, not only will it make you feel hungry, it will also make you retain water. You drink a LOT of water, which is fine, but if the medication is making you hold on to that water, then you won't see any scale movement. You won't see any inches lost either because all that water is just sitting under your skin. I know it's incredibly frustrating to be working so hard and feeling like you're not making any progress, but just hang in there. You obviously have no problem getting enough exercise, and you're managing your calorie intake well. Don't beat yourself up about the part that you CAN'T control--the meds. If you maintain your activity level and your good calorie net you will see progress as soon as you are off the medication. Could be the meds are causing your "water addiction" too. Hang in there! (and talk to your doctor too!)

Thanks for all your replies guys *warm fuzzy feeling, guess i needed a moan*
I don't like salty food at all and never add salt to anything i cook, so i am pretty sure that's not a problem.
You are all right though, i need to give it more time.
Although yes my weight did come on practically overnight, ten pounds the first week on steroids and a steady few a week thereafter. The last two weeks have been the first i have maintained whilst on them. I hate them so much but i am so so sick without them.
May be i will see results next year if manage to come off them, at least i haven't gained.
I am very motivated right now and loving the exercise so i am not giving up!0 -

thank you so much for this sounds like you really understand. Sorry you have been through the same.
I have been hooked on water for years now lol!
About the fluid, i take some herbal diuretics which do help a bit. My wedding band is far too tight and i think it might be fluid retention. I have ugly moon face too!
You are right, i can't help being on the medication, just got to do my best!0 -
Since you are retaining water you may very well be losing fat, but completely unable to see it. Keep at the healthy eating and exercise and if you get on the meds you will find the weight comes off quickly.0

I still feel motivated even though results are modest and slow. My doctor just increased steroids to top whack again but see the specialist next week so hopefully start azathioprine and can start cutting back the steroids!
I do feel better for exercising so much and i can feel that i am fitter already too.
I lost an inch from my waist and my cellulite is better
i know i am doing the right thing for my body, i just need patience and acceptance that i can't help being ill.
Thanks for your support!0 -
Hi there:
I'm glad you've made some progress!! I hit a plateau recently & it can be SO frustrating!! But, like others have said, just stick with it..and it'll be worth it!!0 -
