Today was bad. And I know exactly why & what I did wrong. But HOW do you guys do it?
Once I realized "Oh! I messed up today!" I just kept eating! Figured today was already ruined, why not?!
How do I stop this? Other then the just don't eat. Because that is obvious. Just not so easy!

Just gotta build that willpower. Tomorrow is a new day. Take one step at a time. Dont get too down on yourself. Have faith and confidence in your cause. If you add all that up, plus you have motivation, you'll be on the right path in no time at all(:(:0

Ive done this so many times. Wake up all ready for a healthy day. Then oh crap Im late. Guess Ill be hitting up the drive through. Lunch rolls around. well since I screwed up today might as well just binge
Being healthy doesnt mean never slipping up.
After a bad decision food wise I say to myself my goal is to eat healthy the rest of the day.
I know its hard though. so goodluck0 -
Sometimes I do the same thing. Once i've gone over for a day and have decided I don't care to exercise it off, I "shoot the moon" and just fulfill every craving I have. However...those are in the minority. If you do that one day out of every 20, you're still going to come out ahead. Best way to think about it is "do I want this XYZ food more than I want to be thinner?"0

If you mess up, just think...moderation. Try not to completly over do it and try for a clean slate tomorrow! Don't give up. You have to really want this. If you are serious about losing weight, you have to slow it down. Just because you screwed up on one day doesn't mean that you are done for the day. If you go over, try to do some excersise to make less of a mistake for the day. It takes 3500 extra calories to add a pound of weight to your body. Try, try, try!
Good luck!0 -
I don't know!!! LOL. Just glad to see someone else posting this problem too. I mean, it's great to see everyone doing so well but reality is that we will have bad days, weeks, dare I say months. How do you stop the bad days? I do the exact same thing. I started out today and decided to eat and it's been pretty much none stop all day. Basically I have sabotaged my entire week now. This is what I always do when attempting to lose weight. I start out fairly motivated and then derail myself. Good luck to you. I am curious to see what others say. I try to do something else like exercise or get busy cleaning or reading or something but today that didn't work.0

I don't think there is anyone on MFP that has not been in those shoes. Try to take it one meal at a time. Try to train your brain that just because you may not have had one good meal... that's no reason why the next meal can't be better. It's hard to change our way of thinking, but it can be done. Just stick with it! It's the overall picture to keep in mind... not just one day of weakness. Good luck to you!0 -
Willpower! just because you messed up once doesn't mean to keep doing it. By saying Oh well, you are just giving yourself the excuse to keep going.0

It happens. The trick is to not let a bad day today ruin tomorrow or the next week/month/year/decade. When I was younger this happened to me and it sucked. Now if I have a bad day or even a bad weekend then I start back over, do some damage control and get back to it. I would highly suggest that if you had a bit of binge today to not jump on the scale for a few days. It can be discouraging and one day really isn't that big of a deal. Water weight goes away fairly quickly so it's best not to see it reflected on your scale the day after a slip up. Good luck and stick with it:)0

Sometimes "one day at a time" is too long of an increment. On days like that, make it "one hour at a time." Maybe try filling up on something lower calorie, knowing that you are going to go a little over, and just try to keep it from going way over.0

If it was that easy we all wouldn't be here. If it's a craving then get an amount that fits into your day and put the rest back. If you can't resist (for me it's Oreos:/ ) sabotage it. Flush them, shove em down the garbage disposal. It feels ridiculous but it world. Or try planning out your meals before hand. Enter it all in and see where you stand. I let myself have crap; small amounts of crap. I don't stick to 1200 calories a day and cheat days don't exist in my food diary. Some people it works for; not for me. Pick a method where you don't over indulge or feel like it's forbidden. Forbidden always tastes better haha0

you have to remove yourself from the situation. go take a nap. go for a walk. phone a friend. write a very long paper on healthy eating. anything.0

Next time you slip think to yourself or at least this is what I have done, I have slipped here, do I skate across the pond or walk out in the middle and jump up and down till I am under water. You just have to find the inner stregnth and to realize even if Breakfast was over the calories, you can recover at each meal and each day. Small slow steps build the path.0

Take a quick reality check. Work out your maintenance calories and if you're having an off day, try to stick within those. That way you can reassure yourself that you're not undoing any of your hard work, but you can cut yourself some slack at the same time. Often, when I thought I had gone WAY over, I was still actually under my maintenance calories :happy:0

If I go over I just remind myself that I have a 1000calorie deficit between losing 2lbs a week and maintaining current weight so as long as I don't go over 1000calories extra... I also try to snack on low cal items so im not eating higher cal things, like resisting the cake and snacking on fruit/veggies, so even if I go over cal cuz of the extra snacking on the healthy items then at least its not as bad as it would be if it were cake.
Today I was extra hungry, had 2 lunches, snacks, breakfast, etc, and just told myself id go over today and not worry about it to much but then I remembered my upcoming goals, stopped overeating, drank a ton of water to fill me, chewed some gum and the day wont be as bad as it could've been. I ignored the cookies on the counter, but the pie for dessert might make me go over, but ill still be in the pound and a half a week range for losing instead of 2, but one day of that and ill probably lose the 2lbs anyway :-)0 -
I still struggle myself with this alot, especially on weekends at night - im a big sweets after dinner person and a big dinner person so if my morning goes bad i end up with only being able to have a small dinner and i tend to go overboard and have a big dinner and desert anyway. But i think a lot of the ideas being said help, and i try to think differently. Insteading of thinking oh well i stuffed this day might as well keep going i try to think nope ok healthty small dinner and i'll be ok and i have found that works for me, it just takes time and practice. filling ur time as well helps i found, get busy and you wont think about it. And maybe try and forget your slip and treat the rest of the day like a normal day. i guess its wat works for you. Keep trying and so will i and im sure in time we'll both stop doing this0

It's all about will power... I have to slap my hand like a child sometimes. It gets easier and easier the longer I go on doing it. My husband has been bringing junk into the house lately, he gets like this once in awhile with a sweet tooth and sweets are and always have been my down fall. He brought home my favorite chocolate pie the other night, and I have 1 half of a slice of it, not even a full slice, I always feel guilty when I do that, and I shouldn't I'm allowed to have a sweet once in awhile. I just have to keep my eye on everything I eat, I've made it a habit to log on MFP and log my food before I eat it. I will even plan my meals out on here and then be sure I'm at my calorie intake, and if I'm under I try to find something that isn't high in sugar to help get me there, I want good calories not bad.0
